AOC: U.S. Has ‘Moral Responsibility’ To Resettle At Least 200,000 Afghan Refugees

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said on Wednesday that President Joe Biden must resettle at least 200,000 Afghan refugees throughout America.

 Should the Biden administration agree to such a plan, the resettlement of 200,000 would equal 4.5% of the total population of Kabul.

As American troops rush to get American citizens, as well as any Afghan nationals who have assisted the U.S. out of the country before the August 31 deadline instituted by the Taliban, President Biden has said that currently, up to 65,000 are eligible for resettlement.

We have a moral obligation to the Afghan people. The U.S. role in this crisis is indisputable. We must waste no time or expense in helping refugees safely & swiftly leave Afghanistan. We must immediately welcome them to the U.S. & provide real support as they rebuild their lives.

Ocasio-Cortez tweeted out that, “the U.S. has a moral obligation” to do this,  and that, “the U.S. role in this crisis is indisputable.”

“I believe we need to move and the administration needs to move as quickly as possible and as expansively as possible ensuring that we are raising the amount of refugee visas to whatever amount is necessary,” she continued. 

The radically liberal Congresswoman added, “I would say the rock-bottom is 200,000, but I think it should be whatever is necessary, and that needs to be expedited as soon as possible.” Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s fellow Democrats have proposed more Afghan refugees be evacuated.

The Biden administration is going to keep bragging about the amount of Afghan refugees they are evacuating without telling us how many Americans are still left behind. What a disgrace to have a president who doesn’t put Americans first.

As Southern Border Remains Open, 10 GOP Govs. Say They Will Accept Afghan Refugees

While the Biden administration continues to keep the U.S. southern border effectively open, and thousand cross into the country illegally daily, at least ten Republican Governors have stated that the Biden administration can resettle refugees in their states. 

Among those are: South Carolina’s Henry McMaster, Maryland’s Larry Hogan, Massachusetts’ Charlie Baker, Utah’s Spencer Cox, Georgia’s Brian Kemp, Arkansas’ Asa Hutchinson, Arizona’s Doug Ducey, Iowa’s Kim Reynolds, Oklahoma’s Kevin Stitts, and Vermont’s Phil Scott. 

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez also stated that, “We must waste no time or expense in helping refugees safely & swiftly leave Afghanistan.”

In addition to the ongoing expense of the illegal immigration crisis at the southern border to American taxpayers, however, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez failed to explain the expense of refugee resettlement to taxpayers.

Americans pick up the tab for refugee resettlement to the tune of roughly $9 billion every five years. Each refugee will cost approximately $133,000 over the course of their life in the U.S.

The idea that our government can make Americans out of tens of thousands of Afghan refugees is just as utopian and ridiculous as believing it can turn Afghanistan into America.

AOC And Squad Strangely Silent On The Plight Of Afghan Women And Girls

As Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pleads with the Biden administration to take in large populations of Afghan refugees, she and the rest of her squad mates have been very silent on the predicament of Afghan women and girls, who will be left in the hands of the Taliban once the U.S. has left Afghanistan.

Recently, Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) took Ocasio-Cortez and the squad to task for their deafening silence.

“I have not heard one word from all of these women in ‘The Squad’ in Congress saying anything about protecting the women of Afghanistan,” he said. “You know, they’re closed-mouthed right now. It doesn’t fill their narrative. People ought to be sick of this. They really should be. But we’ll work through this.”

In recent statements, Taliban leaders have said they will “respect womens’ rights,” but it is usually followed by the ambiguous footnote, “as permitted by Islam.” Can we expect some harsh words if women are no longer allowed to work and go to school, if there are beatings, stonings, rapes, and not being allowed out of their houses?

While Ocasio-Cortez tries to get as many Afghan refugees into the United States as possible, what help does she offer American citizens frantic to get out of Afghanistan? Fill out a repatriation assistance form with the State Department, and her office assures them they “stand ready” to help any constituents needing assistance getting out of the country.
