House Republicans Demand Pelosi Begin Congressional Investigation Into COVID-19 Origin

As questions begin to mount, even in the mainstream media, Republican House members are calling for a full-on Congressional investigation into the origins of the COVID-19 virus.

A letter sent to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), signed by over 200 House GOP members including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA), and GOP Conference Chairwoman Elise Stephanik (R-NY) are insisting on an investigation into the origins of the virus.

The letter from GOP lawmakers read in part, “We request that you instruct the appropriate Democrat committee chairs to immediately join Republican calls to hold the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) accountable for its role in causing the global COVID-19 pandemic worldwide.”

The letter continued, “There is mounting evidence the pandemic started in a Chinese lab, and the CCP covered it up. If that is the case, the CCP is responsible for the deaths of almost 600,000 Americans and millions more worldwide.”

Intelligence Reports Could Be Damning

On May 19, a report from Fox News stated that House Intelligence Republicans claimed there was “significant circumstantial evidence” that the virus had come from the now infamous Wuhan Institute of Virology in a lab leak scenario.

U.S. Intelligence officials also reportedly said that there is a large amount of “unexamined evidence” associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Wednesday, President Biden ordered a 90-day investigation by the intelligence community. Biden also said he would make any findings public.

Media Now Giving Credence To Story That Was Once A ‘Conservative Conspiracy Theory’

At the beginning of the outbreak, the media were all too happy to brand Trump’s assertions that the virus came from a lab as nothing more than a “conspiracy theory.” According to the prevailing narrative, the virus began in a wet market and spread to humans from bats. End of story.

Even social media was all too happy to help. Facebook announced in February that they would restrict posts claiming that the virus could in any way be man-made or manufactured. Although just recently, Facebook announced it would no longer ban such posts.

As the pandemic was spreading around the world in April and May of 2020, former President Donald Trump and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo were some of the first to allege that the virus was the product of a leak from the Wuhan lab.

But as the evidence appears to mount, even Dr. Anthony Fauci now says it is “possible” that a lab leak was the source of the virus.

The lab leak theory is gaining new support for a variety of reasons.

In a report from The Hill, three lab workers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology became ill and were hospitalized with COVID-19 like symptoms back in November of 2019.

The Hill report does ask a very valid question, did the media attempt to play down any doubt that was being put forth about the origins of the virus?

The answer may be as simple as this, did Donald Trump as president have more access to information about this virus than the media?

Democrats Taking A Second Look

Democrats in both the House and Senate who originally waved off the theory of a possible lab leak as GOP talking points are now beginning to take a second look.

This rare display of bipartisanship could place Congressional Democrats up against the Biden administration officials, who have said they think any investigations should be headed up by the WHO or a similar body. But even the WHO back in March said China was not forthcoming in releasing lab records and data.

It is not clear yet just exactly how such a bipartisan investigation would be run, but on the surface, it appears that both sides of the aisle want some transparency.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said, “It’s the Chinese Communist Party that has not been transparent and allowed a deeper understanding. They interfered with the World Health Organization’s investigation. They haven’t been transparent from the very beginning.”

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) stated, “As we analyze what went wrong and what we can do in the future, we have to have answers to these questions, too. And I think you’re going to see Congress addressing some of these matters as well. We’ve got to get to the bottom of it.”
