The Biden Presidency: The Beginning of the End

Joe Biden the candidate and Joe Biden the President donā€™t appear at all to be the same person.

On Bidenā€™s campaign website, this is what voters were told about foreign policy under Joe Biden:

Joe Biden announced that, as president, he will advance the security, prosperity, and values of the United States by taking immediate steps to renew our own democracy and alliances, protect our economic future, and once more place America at the head of the table, leading the world to address the most urgent global challenges.Ā Ā

In a Biden administration, America will lead by example and rally the world to meet our common challenges that no one nation can face on its own, from climate change to nuclear proliferation, from great power aggression to transnational terrorism, from cyberwarfare to mass migration. Donald Trumpā€™s erratic policies and failure to uphold basic democratic principles have surrendered our position in the world, undermined our democratic alliances, weakened our ability to mobilize others to meet these challenges, and threatened our security and our future.

While thatā€™s voters were promised, what President Joe Biden delivered in his first major test as Commander-in-Chief was nothing short of abject failure and international humiliation.

Despite what Biden and his administration spinsters have claimed, the execution of the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan couldnā€™t have gone worse. The images ā€“ of Afghans falling out of wheel wells of C-17s; of mothers handing infants over fences to GIs; of thousands overrunning the airport ā€“ will be seared into the psyche of the American people for years to come.

The Biden administration wants desperately to change the subject, which is why Biden went on TV and gave a rambling ā€œspeechā€ on the need for a third COVID vaccine shot.

The problem for Biden and his administration is that the Afghanistan problem is not going away ā€“ no matter how much he wishes it would.

But the problem for Biden is that this is much bigger than Afghanistan. Biden ran for President as the steady hand, the long-time DC veteran who promised a return to ā€œnormalcyā€ and business as usual after the Trump years.

The disaster in Afghanistan pierces the veil of competency. Suddenly it doesnā€™t look like Biden is taking us back to business as usual, indeed what it looks like is that Biden has no idea what he is doing.

Trump governed through chaos but the results in the end were strong, Biden is now giving us chaos and the results are flat out awful.

The challenges Biden faces in other areas ā€“ immigration, inflation, energy, the economy ā€“ will be seen through the lens of the failure in Afghanistan. Voters will start asking whether these other challenges are a product of Bidenā€™s incompetence rather than outside factors.

For Democrats this is a recipe for electoral disaster. Even before the humiliation in Afghanistan the prospects for Democrats in the midterms were looking dismal. Post-Afghan disaster the prospects for Democrats look even worse.

Democrats losing control of both chambers of Congress would spell the absolute end of any meaningful Biden policy initiatives and give Republicans the ability to unleash Congressional oversight over the Executive branch.

Joe Bidenā€™s term as President began on January 20th of this year, this week marks the beginning of the end of that Presidency ā€“ at least in any meaningful fashion.

It is difficult to imagine how President Biden can rebound from this disaster especially given the absolute tone deaf response from the White House over the last few days.

Biden has told the American people that this is the best they could have hoped for, he has failed to hold anyone accountable (Trump would have fired everyone in sight), and he has absolutely failed to instill confidence in the electorate that this level of incompetence isnā€™t systemic in his administration.

The Biden White House is hoping that voters will forget what they saw, unfortunately for Biden and the Democratic Party, they will be reminded of what happened this week and exactly who and why it happened every single time Biden opens his mouth.
