A security agent investigates sabotage and murder at a secret underground laboratory, home of two experimental robots. —Rod Crawford (puffinus@u.washington.edu)

Synopsis: Spoilers?
We open with a closeup of a syringe and Dr. Kirby (an uncredited Aline Towne) injecting a solution into a lab monkey, Pepe. He is wired up for an experiment in freezing and thawing. Through the window, we see Dr. Hubertus (Michael Fox), the department head. The chamber is reduced in temperature to minus 85 degrees and Pepe is frozen solid in less than two minutes. The process is reversed and Pepe is revived. The test is deemed a success. Pepe is sent to the lab for a blood count, and Dr. Hubertus sends Dr. Kirby to the supply room for a more sensitive thermostat. After Dr. Kirby leaves, the cold chamber door closes, trapping Hubertus. He struggles to get out as the automated equipment begins its deep cold cycle. Hubertus is frozen solid. Dr. Kirby finds the thermostat and returns to the cryo lab. She enters the chamber to discover the dead and shattered remains of Dr. Hubertus. The door closes on her and the cryo cycle repeats, killing her.

A helicopter crosses the desert sky. Onboard is the pilot Al (an uncredited Al Bayer) and his passenger, Dr. David Sheppard (Richard Egan). They are headed for the satellite project, a top-secret facility built underground. The helicopter is suddenly tossed around, much to Sheppard’s concern, but the pilot explains that the “brain” has taken over the controls and will do the flying. It keeps the exact location of the facility secret. The pair are being monitored by central control. Just before they land the sun mirror shines on them.

Gog–or GOG, as it was originally released, is another of Ivan Tors’ speculative melodramas about the activities of the fictional Office of Scientific Investigation. This time, OSI operative David Sheppard (Richard Egan) looks into sabotage being directed against the New Mexico installation where the first manned space station is being built. The base is under the “command” of NOVAC, an anagram for Nuclear Operated Variable Automatic Computer. It turns out that NOVAC has been overridden by enemy agents, who’ve reprogrammed the computer to undermine the space-station project and even commit murder. To this end, NOVAC dispatches two robots, GOG and MAGOG, to do its dirty work. Can Democracy be saved? Gog was directed by Herbert L. Strock, who later helmed many episodes of Ivan Tors’ Science Fiction Theater TV series.

Plot: Spoilers?
Unaccountable, deadly malfunctions begin occurring at a top-secret government facility located under the New Mexico desert, where a space station is being constructed. Dr. David Sheppard, from the Office of Scientific Investigation (OSI) in Washington, D.C., is called in to investigate the mysterious deaths. Working with Joanna Merritt, another OSI agent already at the facility, Sheppard determines that the deaths among the laboratory’s 150 top scientists are due to deliberate sabotage of the facility’s Nuclear Operative Variable Automatic Computer (NOVAC), which controls and co-ordinates all the equipment in the underground facility.

It is far more difficult, however, to determine how the sabotage is being done. The unseen enemy strikes, again and again, snuffing out the lives of five scientists and two human test subjects in quick succession, as well as Major Howard, the complex’s Chief of Security. In addition, both Madame Elzevir (solar engineering scientist) and Dr. Peter Burden (chief atomic engineer) are attacked, but manage to survive, although both are injured.
