Two fishermen pick up a psychopathic escaped convict who tells them that he intends to murder them when the ride is over. —duke1029
Two friends on a fishing trip pick up a stranded motorist who turns out to be a psychopathic escaped convict. This sociopath has already murdered other good Samaritans in his efforts to evade authorities. He sadistically taunts and threatens the two men and perversely delights in telling them that he has them both marked for death sometime before the end of the trip. His destination is a ferryboat in Baja, California, which he hopes will help him get to the mainland. The hostages hope to stay alive long enough to escape or be rescued by Mexican authorities. —duke1029

Sooner they learn that the man is the psychopath serial-killer Emmett Myers, who has escaped from prison and wants to reach Santa Rosalia in Mexico. The sadistic criminal also tells them that he will kill them in the end of the line. —Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Two old friends, Roy Collins and Gilbert Bowen, are driving south into Mexico for a one week fishing trip. They’d been there once before as young men and there’s some nostalgia attached to the trip though family man Bowen admits early on that he already misses his wife and kids. When they see a car broken down by the side of the road, they offer its occupant a lift. It doesn’t take long before they realize they’ve picked up the notorious Emmett Myers, who is desperately trying to evade authorities and get to Mexico. He’s left a trail of good Samaritans who have given him a lift and are now dead. While the police chase them down, Collins and Bowen will be driven to the breaking point by the madman. —garykmcd

Ray (Edmond O’Brien) and Gilbert’s (Frank Lovejoy) fishing trip takes a terrifying turn when the hitchhiker (William Talman) they pick up turns out to be a sociopath on the run from the law. He’s killed before, and he lets the two know that as soon as they’re no longer useful, he’ll kill again. The two friends plot an escape, but the hitchhiker’s peculiar physical affliction, an eye that never closes even when he sleeps, make it impossible for them to tell when they can make a break for it.
Plot: Spoilers?
As the film begins, a man is shown hitchhiking and being picked up by a succession of people he subsequently robs and kills. A suspect, Emmett Myers (Talman), is publicized in newspaper headlines.
Two friends, Roy Collins (O’Brien) and Gilbert Bowen (Lovejoy) are driving in southern California toward a planned fishing trip in the Mexican town of San Felipe on the Gulf of California. Just south of Mexicali, they pick up Myers, who pulls a gun and takes them hostage.
Myers forces them to journey over dirt roads into the Baja California Peninsula toward Santa RosalÃa, where he plans to take a ferry across the Gulf of California to Guaymas.
Myers terrorizes and humiliates the two men, at one point forcing Bowen, standing a long distance away, to shoot a tin can out of Collins’ hand. One night during their one attempt to escape, Collins hurts his ankle.
When the car is damaged, Myers forces them to continue on foot despite Collins’ injury. Myers ridicules the two men for missing opportunities to escape for fear the other might be killed. He boasts, “You can get anything at the end of a gun.”
