These days, everyone wants to know how to be a digital nomad. They want to know how to have the freedom to live anywhere and make money while traveling. In this video, we show you how to make working remotely a reality. Don’t even bother going onto job sites looking for remote work—it’s a total waste of time.
The things we’re going to show you in this video aren’t just ways to make passive income, nor are they all ways to earn an income online. However, they are all income ideas helping you to make money living abroad or make money while traveling the world.
When we moved to Mexico, we didn’t have a YouTube channel or any kind of remote job. We just had some ideas and a work ethic. We made our online business a reality and make a full-time income working remotely. We’re still working to increase our passive income. But we want to show some ways you can be a digital nomad and live in any country you want. You don’t necessarily have to give up your current career either. There are many ways to make money while traveling.
ABOUT US (MADDIE & JORDAN)
In January 2018, we sold everything we owned in the US (except our husky Laska & what fit in our tiny, tangerine Prius C3) to travel the world—starting with Mexico. Since then, we’ve been making travel videos about our life in Mexico and the new experiences we encounter while traveling the world. If you’d like to join our shenanigans, subscribe to our YouTube channel. You can also poke around our social media to find out what we’re up to each week.

Before coming to Mexico, we had no idea what a great option VIPKID was. If we had, we might not have started a YouTube channel at all. VIPKID has its benefits and drawbacks, but this is—without a doubt—the best option we've found for working remotely. If you'd like to apply to be a VIPKID teacher, we'd be very grateful if you used our affiliate link to do it: https://t.vipkid.com.cn/?partnerId=15506331
This is very helpful.
Jordan, u ok bro? Allergic reaction in your eyes?
For some of us it's hard to concentrate on your dialogue with that music playing. Besides that music gets really monotonous.
It seems you guys might just be scraping by. How long do you think you can keep up this kind of lifestyle? Maybe some people can do it forever, which is OK too.
Hey guys I am currently signing up for the VIPKID and it is asking for a referral code. Do you guys have one of those to give me so you can gain credit for referring me? Thank you for sharing this opportunity with me. I believe this is something I would love to pursue and enjoy long into the future.
Thank you for not doing the high school paper outline routine everyone does. THE FULL intro, body, conclusion. You got to the point and had some good ideas. Will use your link for the teaching gig.
I am web developer but still watching this video to find more income sources.. :p
I’m just starting with VIPKid. I’ll let yas know how it goes.
DO NOT WORK AT REV!! Maybe they used to be a good company back in the day, but now they're terrible for a multitude of reasons. If you're curious about it, just Google it and read what former employees say.
Making money with stock photography is realistic in a sense that you can make "money", but making anything worthwhile is highly unlikely. You might get a free meal after six months of uploading photos every day, and that's if you're lucky. You're literally paid in pennies. I wouldn't say it's even worth the effort. You can walk up to random people in the street with a physical print and you're more likely to sell that for A LOT more than you will on stock websites.

Great info here you two! Once again, thanks to your videos, I’m inspired to get out into the world and get creative!! Thank you both so much.
yall cute. what do you think of being a mobile hairdresser? Advertising on FB community pages, maybe donating a portion to a charity?
I love this last option!!!!
I just discovered three other ways I can make some money even from the u.s. thanks to u guys.
Great video, I have a friend in Canada that could use this information, I will link her to it. Again, thank you.
VIPKIDS wants you to have a 4 year degree
Do you guys know of any other websites like this that don't require you to have a 4 year degree??
Maybe I'll email them. I have a two year degree in Early childhood education
Experience in day cares. I was pretty upset when I got the follow up email saying I didn't fit their requirements
Do you need to be bilingual to teach on VIPKID?
How do I get more information about the teaching VIP program? I used the link you all provided to sign up so I didn’t know if you all could help with the questions/process or not? Thank you so much for briefly talking about that!
Thanks so much for sharing these tips!
I cant believe how you built up the VIPKid and got me so excited by saying several times that you said "you dont need to have a teaching degree or anything like that". I wasted my time when at the end you say…but you need to have a Bachelor's degree. That was total misinformation that should have been said at the beginning. Good job making sure you got more video watch time while crushing the Hope's of others.
Really inspired about this video. We are at the first steps of making videos for youtube and this whole thing begins all because I really love travel. Wanted to mention that I have a big desire to know whole the world, other cultures and to experience those thing that for a long time were a dream for me. Not to much money for exploring and still a beginner of youtube, but really a great desire to share with other people what I see. I hope one day to reach more viewers. Please feel free to know and support us. Love u all
Hey guys, I love your videos, in fact you have been an inspiration for us to start our own channel. We would eventually love to move to Mexico but with a family we need to do a lot more research and really make sure we don't screw up our kids lol. Anyways keep making these awesome videos of your travel adventures
Working for VIP Kid or any of the other online English schools (they are all basically the same, maybe they even are the same company) you might manage to work in your PJs from the waist down, but from the waist up you will need to wear what they want you to wear. You won't need to wear a suit or anything, but you will need to comply. The company that hired me wanted everyone to wear a shirt with a collar (like a polo or similar is good enough) and it had to be in the company color.
It will be difficult to do this while traveling because you have to be in front of a plain white or light-colored wall which you then need to decorate with relevant illustrations. Also, you need to have a very reliable and fast internet connection. If you are moving around I think you will have a hard time knowing if your next town will have a sufficient connection until you actually get there.
I went through a few auditions and some training and was hired with one of these. But the next day after completing everything and expecting to select my hours and get assigned my students, I was told, along with the others in my class that there was no need for us because so many students were taking time off over the holidays. They expected to start having a need for us again in a few months. So, I never actually went to work for them.
If the situation was right, I might work for one of them again, but several things described above would need to be adjusted, plus the biggest problem which you guys already covered in the video – the time difference. There are a couple companies looking for remote teachers for students in the Western hemisphere. That's great because it solves the time zone problem and you don't need to work during the night, but you need to be fluent or near-fluent in either Spanish or Portuguese to work for those companies.
The best place I have found online for getting remote job listings is Indeed, and it's free. Also, there are lots of teachers who have posted videos on YouTube about online teaching. They give you a good idea of what to expect and some good tips, too.
Fun fact: The entire enormous country of China has only one time-zone. There would probably be at least five time zones there normally. It ends up with kids getting off school at 3:30 p.m. by the clock, but by the sun it's actually 7:30 p.m. or maybe 12:30 p.m. Sounds really confusing to me.
Great tips! It's important to be true to yourself and find work that you will be able to sustain, I'm looking for remote work now that will allow me to continue traveling!
Love the eyeshadow dude , brings out your cheekbones
Does anyone know where you get paid from to teach English online? I ask this for the purpose of knowing where I will have to pay taxes. I currently do not have any taxable income in the US and prefer to keep it that way.
This video was so SO helpful! Thank you both so much, blessings to you!!
"cool stfu… cool stuff" lol
most of this just works if you live in the US, so… yeah…
This was a good video! However, I believe a service-based business like freelance writing, copywriting, design, etc.. is optimal! You can earn a high ish rate ($50/ph) if you're in the right niche. Niche down, find clients and get PAID! Cold emailing and other sites are better than Fiverr and Upwork!
I really think you are not judiciously watching your consumption food and drink.
What about taxes? And work visas? Is working remotely in a foreign country legal?
Wow ! Thanks so much for this tips ! Very helpful.
May I get your affiliate link for vipkid.com as the ability to navigate to it is compromised by the hashtag which obstructs getting to your links. Want you to get the benefit as I love your vids and service. Thank you.👍
thank you so much. 🙂
If you tried to do the Vip kid in your pajamas the kid and their parent may frown on that and then you would not have any kids. They see you and you need to pass some pretty weird test things. The guy I know that is doing it watched the videos and practiced the voice and mannerisms of the guy in the videos and landed the job but since they monitor the classes he has to keep practicing this to keep doing it and it is funny hearing the voice coming from him. But he does like it and they are looking for a certain type which is fine they own the company and only a few get to the top pay they tell him.
I've been watching you guys go through Mexico and I love Mexico more Baja cuz I love to surf and it's a little bit different. But I've been finding your videos very entertaining and now I can thank you for pointing me in the right direction because I've been living in Hawaii for 30 years now and I can write and I'll spare you that talent except for thank you for sharing all of your income suggestions!!! I will sign up through your link! Aloha, Kevin
are you brother n sister?
Regarding point #1 please note that it’s illegal to work in a foreign country without a work visa. So to do massage therapy or hairdressing or dog training like you mentioned, if you did any of those in Mexico without a work visa you could be deported
Im a teacher in Socal thinking of visiting/living in Thailand, If i take the plunge, ill use your link for sure.
MY MAN! YOU HAVE TO GEAR BACK ON THE DRINKS. YOUR BODY IS ALLERGIC, CAN SEE IT AROUND YOUR EYES!
Thank you so much. I've heard Americans cannot work in Mexico for at least 6 months.
Loved it. Just found you. Subbed. Great info. Haven't seen some of these before. Subbed.
you two should do a book. should have enough material.
