The most important thing that sells is Content. Youtube is a great platform to showcase your creativity, and so you need to know what theme you wish to do youtube videos on. It could be anything that makes people learn new stuff, gain new knowledge or just make them happier. In short, content is the king and thus you need to decide what is it that you can do the best on your channel and start designing and developing good content. Once your video is ready publish it with relevant tags and keywords so that it is available easily.

Next comes frequency and sharing – Once you start putting out videos, make a routine- either to publish a video every week, 2 videos every week or whatever suits you- but make sure you do upload something which will make you visible to your viewers every once in a while. If people start liking you they will wait for your videos, and would be your potential subscribers. Once you upload a video, share it on every media possible. Try to interact with your viewers through comments to give a personal touch.

Now comes the important part – How and When do you start making money out of your videos
This is fairly easy. All you have to do is go on ‘My channel’, click the ‘Video Manager’ link and click enable on Monetization.
But there are some requirements before youtube starts paying you-
You need at least 4,000 watch hours in the previous 12 months and 1000 subscribers to start earning money.
You can monetize a video as it uploads by clicking the Monetization tab and checking the “Monetize with Ads” box.
To monetize a video after it has been uploaded, open your Video Manager and click the “$” sign next to the video that you want to monetize. Check the “Monetize with Ads” box.
Next you will need to setup Google Adsense. You need either PayPal or a bank account and a valid mailing address as well as other information so AdSense can verify who you are and who to send the money to. You only gain money per ad click and a smaller amount per view but it adds up over time. Also, make sure you’re 18 years+

There’s a very helpful feature in youtube known as Google Analytics that helps you understand how your video is doing. You can know all about your viewers and subscribers for example their georaphical locations, age group etc through this tool.

There’s another way you can earn really well with Youtube which is by becoming a youtube partner. Youtube partners are youtube members who have monetized videos with a large number of viewers. For this you’ll need to have 15,000 cumulative watch hours for your channel over the last 90 days. Partners gain access to more content creation tools, community support and tips.
Once you start doing good with your videos, you can also start selling your own merchandize on youtube or doing sponsored videos from various brands which will pay you very high amounts. You can give product links and helpful tips in the description box to enable your viewers to follow those products or buy that merchandize.
