  • Talking is good. I'm certainly interested in what you have to say.

  • Hey John, can you tell me something? How come, or why somebody how is interested in what your head is capable to do and to build, but is not interested in what that same head have to say?
They are just idiots? Ok, yes they are… They are subscribed to a "talking" chanel..
You just keep going with wherever you want to do or say, if you share it!! Lol
    Big hug.

  • Just wondering….
What if you had a regular sponsor that made a product that had absolutely nothing to do with what you do in the videos but you have the same target audience? Like a razor blade company, or an outdoor clothing company or a company that makes socks or a company that sells tires?

  • I guess I'm confused. People used to make YouTube videos and get paid for the views, adds, comments etc.. Then they came out with Patreon account that people pay on. What happened to just making videos and collecting the money.? Is it because people just wanted to work out of their homes and make a living.? I'm still not sure I understand why the Patreon account. People used to have privileges or give aways before to help sell channel views. That has now changed and you have to be in the Patreon group to participate.

  • Are you sure you could live on $888000 a month?

  • I love profanity. Anyone who says otherwise has no idea what articulation is. The swear police are just pontificating. Bunch of pretentious posterior orifices.

  • Not true about no one wants to learn something from no ones, millions of kids today are going to college and learning from no ones every day, worst part is they are believing the stuff that those college teachers are teaching.

  • I felt so bad watching this and seeing your blue belt sander in the background all the time. I built one last year just by watching the videos and instructions, without buying the plans, but it is exactly your design. I always wanted to contribute back somehow, so today I bought the plans. Call that my first 12 months.

  • Quick videos are over-rated. I used to be a massive fan of woodworkweb and I'm still a fan of Colin. But I am over all the quick hack & tips videos. One of my favourite makers is Paul Jenkins, the Wood Knight. He too tells it like it is, explains everything well and happily tells you about any mistakes. I have to be honest here and say I really dislike what I think of as the "look at me" videos, you know the ones – just watching someone do stuff, usually to horrible loud music and no facts or explanation given at all.

  • What do you estimate the return on investment if a video is semi- or well-scripted
and therefore is more concise less time-consuming video?
My 2¢ is the more investment in planning or editing a video that delivers the same or better content in less time
I find more appealing and make me more likely to give more views to more of the content creators.

  • Why is there no value in swearing?

Is it not a valuable way to relieve stress and articulate emotion?

Are you stopping your swearing to appease the social justice warriors and post modernists?

  • I am glad you will stop swearing. Good for you.

  • I just watched your “Making Money On Youtube And The 1% Solution” video. I thank your videos are great and very much enjoy watching what you do. I think you are brilliant when it comes to designing and making different items. Your ideals also give me a lot of ideals and information on how to do and make other projects. One comment I do appreciate is your decision to stop cussing. As you said it only takes away from the quality of your video. However I can understand your frustration with some peoples (or should I say Idiots) comments. I was not aware of being a Patreon. I think your videos and information are well worth contributing too. Just remember more complainers will post a comment the praises. So for every negative comment you receive remember could be 100 positive thoughts and comments are not being posted. You are good at what you do, you are honest, admit when you make a mistake or screw something up and I appreciate that. Keep up the good work; I will become a small time Patreon. May God Bless you and your Shop.

  • Great video. Many of us daydream of making money on YT, but the reality of it all is another story. I always enjoy your vids, even those that some people brand as cranky

  • I don't make videos and have no interest in doing so.I like watching and learning from use guys and girls that do make them. It is alot of time to prepare and edit all this so you should make a half decent amount of money it's your job. And i totally agree about BIG companies having u jump threw hoops they think they own u tell them to P OFF. Keep up the good videos and the odd swear word never hurt anyone

  • I love your videos. I understand your frustration at spending 4 days to shoot and edit a video and not gettting the views but have you considered that the demand for information about an enclosed wall mounted lumber rack MIGHT be a little low? I've never seen one, I wouldn't want one. I can't see how this could be used for anything else off hand.
So maybe this is just a low demand video. I'd stick to things that people need or want or could reuse for something they are working on. I think that I found your channel on a search for simple shop cabinet doors.

  • If you stop talking on your videos, I'm going to bitch about the days when you used to talk and threaten to unsub like a 400lb toddler. I've been subbed to all your channels, love your work, if I ever decide to get serious a kick off my channel, it will be because of creators like yourself. And Matthias… Just sayin'.

  • I liked the Scanner Danner premium YouTube model where you pay nine dollars a month and access to his whole library of automotive electronics diagnostic videos and technical college lecture videos which I saw as the best and cheapest backup to technical training anyone could ever obtain. I viewed it as I was paying for an world class technical education for next to nothing. I hear that YouTube isn't allowing premium channels any more which I find short sighted miss read of where technical education is going.

  • I figure you "money Makers" are probably working for less than US minimum wage by the time you average out all your time and expenses.

  • Great video! Great advice.

I tried Patreon, but was unable to figure it out. Being a YouTube content provider I tried to figure out the process. I searched for video on YT on setting up Patreon and couldn't find anything I could wrap my head around. I tried contacting Patreon support. Didn't get any response.

Do you have any suggestions on how to learn to use Patreon? Thanks!

  • Super cool to hear you thinking through these different avenues. They all have their tradeoffs, I guess. Well thought through

  • Even NPR has pledge drives, so nothing wrong about it.

  • Ok John…..you are my first and only Patreon subscription. I just set it up, I'm a pensioner, limited income, but the stuff you do is so enjoyable to me and I learn so much from you. If/when my income increases…I'll up the Patreon.
Let me tell you why I've watched your stuff for so long, because this may be of interest to you…..it's because I TRUST you and the information you provide. Thanks for all you do.

  • I like it, count me in for a $1 per month for 10 months…. Complete bargin. I sponsor Wikipedia for a $1/day, because it gives me value.
