Charles “The Butcher” Benton, a brutal death row inmate gets double-crossed by his crooked lawyer. He gets his chance for revenge when, after he’s been executed, a bizarre experiment brings him back to life and more deadly than ever.

Lt. Dick Chasen (Casey Adams) narrates the strange story of Charles “Butcher” Benton (Lon Chaney, Jr.), a condemned man who came back for revenge. In prison, Butcher refuses to reveal to his crooked lawyer Lowe (Ross Elliott) where he hid $600,000 from a bank robbery. Even though he’s due to be executed, Butcher vows revenge on Lowe and his partners, Squeamy (Marvin Ellis) and Joe (Ken Terrell). Lowe visits stripper Eva (Marion Carr), to whom Butcher has sent a map of the spot in the Los Angeles sewer system where he hid the loot, but Lowe opens the letter first and secretly takes the map. After the execution, Butcher’s body is taken to San Francisco scientist Prof. Bradshaw (Robert Shayne) who’s trying for a cure for cancer, but instead, his experiments bring Butcher back to life. His cellular structure has been increased to the point where he’s nearly indestructible, and he is incredibly strong. He kills the scientist and his assistant and heads for Los Angeles. When stripper Eva turns out to be very different from the person he was expecting, Dick becomes attracted to her. Butcher, who can no longer speak, arrives and learns she doesn’t have the map. Aware of Butcher’s vow, he tries to inform Squeamy, but Butcher kills both Squeamy and Joe.

Synopsis: Spoilers?
We open with a scene of the indestructible man on top of a gantry crane at an electrical power generating station and the credits. Lt. R. Chasen is dictating his report of the case and tells the story of the Indestructible Man in flashback.

We are outside the gates at San Quentin prison in California. This is the final stop for Charles “Butcher” Benton (Lon Chaney, Jr.); he is scheduled for execution in the gas chamber the next day. He is visited by his attorney, Paul Lowe (Ross Elliott). Lowe tells Benton his appeal was unsuccessful. Benton, while not surprising, is angry. He calls him a liar and a double-crosser. Benton was part of a gang that stole $600,000 in an armored car robbery that Lowe masterminded. Two of his accomplices turned state’s evidence, at the urging of Lowe. But Benton hid the money from his gang, and Lowe wants it. He tries to convince Benton to give it to him, but Benton vows to take revenge on all involved and take the location of the money to the grave.

Plot Spoilers?
Told in a narrative style, popularized by the television police series Dragnet, by police detective Dick Chasen (Max Showalter), the story concerns a 72-hour period of horror for the city of Los Angeles. Charles “Butcher” Benton (Chaney) is a double-crossed convicted robber and murderer who was executed in the gas chamber. His body is unlawfully sold to a scientist (Robert Shayne) who plans to move his experiments into the cause and cure of cancer to human subjects. Benton’s corpse is subjected to chemical injection and massive jolts of high-voltage electricity in order to study the effect on human tissues. But Benton’s heart is restimulated and he completely revives (though rendered mute due to electrical damage to his vocal cords), immensely strong and with skin virtually impervious to scalpels, police bullets, even to bazooka shells.
