The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are tracking the new BA.2.86 COVID-19 variant after it was reported at a University of Michigan lab. The CDC also says COVID hospitalizations jumped 14% the week of Aug. 5. Dr. William Schaffner, professor of infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, joined CBS News to talk about the variant.
