AI – Shaking Up Software

The Future of AI with Midjourney

EVERYTHING I’VE touched on so far is probably no surprise to anyone who’s kept an eye on what’s going on in terms of software development. However, let’s now take a look at a lesser-known brand-new tool called Midjourney. It’s so new it’s still in its Beta stage, and it’s only accessible through Discord, which is a server-based community.

Midjourney is an AI based tool, which is ‘an independent research lab exploring new mediums of thought and expanding the imaginative powers of the human species.’ That’s how they describe themselves but, in simple terms, this is an AI bot that creates images or art based on which keywords you choose to use as a prompt.

Every single piece of imagery that’s made by users using their chosen prompt is unique, and the outcome is yours, you own it. What does this mean for creatives? Well, the opportunities are positively endless! This software absolutely blew my mind, and it’s easy to get totally carried away creating your own digital pieces of art.

More pertinently, however, can a program such as this be used by professionals within their business? Absolutely! After all, many of us are already employing the services of stock photo sites for images we can use to overlay or enhance our own creations. For photo artists creating book covers or any digital art, the finding and use of layers is key to creating a viable final piece.

With Midjourney you can create any unique texture or image you want, and the best thing is that it’s so fast, and it provides incredibly detailed results. I did a prompt of ‘landscape, autumn, leaves, realistic,’ and it gave me the results you see here. You can even upscale them to get higher resolution versions that will then be usable in photo art.

The possibilities don’t end there with Midjourney. This program can filter into branding and graphic design work, such as logo creation, by using the prompt to add in the necessary keywords. Here I used ‘Fern leaf, hand drawn, minimal, logo.’ The results happen in a matter of seconds, and they’re completely usable. Perhaps this doesn’t compare to having a real graphic designer on hand but, for many jobs that need an instant starting point, this is amazing.
