On September 15th, we closed on our house and took off on a journey of a lifetime! One that our kids and we will NEVER regret or forget. We moved from our traditional life, our “sticks and bricks”, daily work grind, and moved into our 23 foot travel trailer. We took our first trip to Florida in our first trailer. Which was a Jayco Hybrid Pop Up, and although we had a great time in Florida, once we got to colder weather, we traded our Pop Up for a Full Enclosed trailer! It took a long time to find the right one, but it was easier knowing that we would be LIVING in it this time, so we knew what to look out for.
We spent the whole hunting season out in the woods, boondocking (no hookups, nothing!), and enjoying the peace and quiet that comes with that. Not to mention the fact that we could wake up and hunt. Normally we had a 2 hour drive there and back home every day for the whole season. So we saved a TON of money and time!
After hunting season we stayed in Washington so that Earl could finish getting his required hours for work. That took about 2 months, and then December 26th, we finally took off! Before we did we had to empty out our entire storage unit. Which was PACKED to the hilt! It was costing us $160 a month just to store some furniture. We decided that those pieces of furniture were not worth $160 a month for a whole year that we would be gone. So whenever we do buy a house again we will have to buy ALL NEW furniture, which I find very exciting!
After selling everything off on Facebook Marketplace and Offer Up, we closed our storage unit and handed off the keys for good! It felt so good to let go of all the stuff! Knowing that everything you own is on wheels is a little weird but you will never forget anything, so that’s nice!
We were finally free! Free to explore and free to get away from all the RAIN! We’ve both lived in Washington State our entire lives and we were just OVER IT! Although, right before we left, we went to lock it all up and realized no one had the trailer keys. They were actually spare because we already lost the first set. After an hour of searching EVERYWHERE and being locked out of the trailer, we came to the conclusion that Noah must have accidentally thrown them away. Trying to find a locksmith who can break into a trailer the day after Christmas was NOT an easy task!
We managed to find someone and bring the trailer to him and he got it unlocked! Praise God! But that is how we started our grand journey! Then we had to stop by and get the tires rotated but everyone was hours out, so we got lucky and was able to drop by Earls brother Mikes house to make it happen!
