5 Things You Should Have In Your Camper van

5 Things You Should Have In Your Camper van

I still don’t appreciate what we have in our own country, over the next year I will show the best bits of Britain!

I have started a van conversion so that me and the gf can travel around the UK, Europe and even maybe further afield. Please like share and subscribe as this will be a series of videos showing the full transformation!

  • Hugh man been a good man and toking?

  • Man offline navi on the phone is very easy thing, you donΒ΄t need data for that, and you also donΒ΄t have to have all the countries πŸ˜‰ just download on wifis as you go before you enter a new country

  • Great vid..Extension /multi plug lead..Solar lantern or head torch

  • Tools, fire blanket, extinguisher, first aid kit, a couple of pay as you go SIM cards with alternative networks and a few power banks

  • Fire extinguisher would be my choice, and a fire blanket.

  • Thnx. Some good but often overlooked common sense tips. Imho a 1st aid kit, fire extinguisher, a torch or two (or three if including wind up model) and sleep bag are basic everyday essential part any SOS motoring kit. And as long as there is access to hot water both a flask and hot water bottle is also another good addition. I also agree, imho at this basic van level general camping catering equipment is ideally suited. However to avoid constant annoying rattle in transit, l personally would have to atleast recommend use of bubble wrap etc lol πŸ™‚

  • Hi Hugh, your videos are a great source of inspiration! Can you tell me where you got the cork edging around the ply lining that I see. I have an idea!
    Keep up the good work

  • Not sure about your gas bottle I understand these must be enclosed in a sealed enclosure. Yours underneath cooker. Hmmmm!

  • Buy UHT milk, much nicer. Can be stored for a long time if not opened

  • Serious users could also fit a split charge alternator to top up the House batts while driving. I would maybe fit a switch to flick from engine alternator charge to roof solar charge dependant on use and English weather ?

To Add to your list , of Essentials, A very long mains electric extension reel just in case you get the chance to hook up to a 240 mains socket on your travels at a mates house or pay a couple of Quid to a helpful person ? You never know when it may be useful.

at more expense if you can afford it / need it , a petrol genny, or diesel/ lpg ? just to boost the batteries in cold dark weather if parked remotely.

  • More lighting.
I use a van for work. winter darkness.
I have a couple of cig lighter re chargeable lamps / torches. charge as you drive.
Also i carry a couple of those mini very cheap solar chargers for extra lighting.
    as follows,
    In Uk .
bought from one of the well known Cheap new supermarkets abt Β£6.99 ? / under a tenner for sure , they are mini solar panels 3.5 inches square with a 10 led lamp. 2 settings, Low which is bright, and PIR and brighter which is Dazzlingly bright.
I place the panels on the seat or dash top in the sun whilst parked . they would secure with blutak or velcro or small screws to dashtop.
also look at the Β£1. shops for garden solar lights.
suction pad or sticky tape or blutak to windscreen while parked to charge lots of them .
like Β£20 / 30 quids worth or as may as you like = cheap to buy, small and easy to use and store, and run for free via the sun !

this way you never use scarce House battery power for basics like light and devices

NOR in a working van do i drain my engine battery whilst loading the rear. my van int lights go out after a short while automatically to save battery hence i load in the dark at night in winter. with out my rechargeables and solar lights.

  • Hey Hugh do you reckon I could convert a normal transit looking for a cheaper van to start with

  • Hi Hugh. Great video! I've been looking for one of those rugs for our camper van for a while, where did you buy it from?

  • Hey Hugh,
    Love your list very sensible.
I really love your sink/stove combo never saw that in USA.
Could you convert pounds into American roughly?
I subbed, liked and sent this bit of a note.
Know you won't be able to get back to everyone, so no worries.
Like the suggestions a lot and am anxious to see where you go and what you see. It will
all be new to me as I've never been abroad!
    Safe travels and happy times,

    I go by "Her Woofness"

  • Great films, inspired me to start converting my Ford transit Custom which has just turned 3 years old. I travel all over the country for bike racing and this will be a cheaper option rather than hotels etc. looking to drive it over to France later in the year once complete. check out speedieclark, and cheers for the motivation.

  • Fuses, my 12v charging fuse blew the other wk, luckily I was on my way back from being in the middle of know where in Scotland, though a lesson learned to carry a few spares from now on πŸ™‚
