Avoid This Truck Camper Newbie Mistake! Don’t Over-Tighten!

When we first bought our truck camper we didn’t know anything about them so we kinda learned on the go. I figured we would have a lot of issues right away but the biggest one I will be going over in this video today. I’m sure everyone who owns a truck camper at one time or another is scared that the camper might fall off the truck, and that was my biggest fear too. So when we first got it I tightened down the turnbuckles as tight as I could so I was sure that the camper would not move. Well the camper didn’t move but it ended up breaking my turnbuckle. The weight of the camper moving broke all the threads on the bolt and the whole thing fell apart. So take my advise don’t over tighten your turnbuckles it’s not fun driving down the road with your camper hooked up by a ratchet strap.

  • Good tip! I tighten mine by hand then a 1/2 turn with a wrench.

  • Thanks for the tip! That happened to my grandfather a few times and then he just started carrying an extra one.
