Back to Dry Camping – Shawnee National Forest & Garden of the Gods – Full time RV Living

We have left our friend’s place so it’s back to dry camping for us. Just 7 miles from our new site conveniently lies The Garden of the Gods; glorious sandstone formations from an ancient sea bed 320 million years in the making.

The solar eclipse is passed and our time with our friends has come to a close. It’s off to our next destination, the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois. Our friends recommended that we go to The Garden of the Gods just 7 miles from our site to see the gorgeous lookouts and sandstone formations. Being in the Garden of the Gods Wilderness we saw many creatures while exploring the various rock formations making us feel utter immersed in the beauty that surrounded us.

It's pronounced Su as in up, Lean. It is beautiful here in Illinois… Some places anyway. Yes the humidity is horrible here.

We did a 3 day weekend camping trip to Shawnee National Forest in May 2018. OMG! The ticks were horrible! Lone Star ticks all over the place. We pulled around 20 off of our dog, my oldest daughter had one bite her in the stomach, and I had one get me in my shoulder blade area. It was a good trip, and we had fun, but I was surprised with how bad the ticks were.

A few people a year fall off those rocks and die. Green moss and Grey Lichten is extremely slippery. Oh , a lot of rattle snakes live there too. Just an FYI for next time.

Have you packed the hub bearings with grease on your trailer ? Should be part of your yearly maintinance done on your trailer by a mechanic. Check the shackles and springs for excessive wear on your travel trailer. Proper tire pressure will increase your mileage and tread wear on your tires. Your video's are etting better with each one.

You should come to Georgia in the summer, talk about humid. I’ve lived here all my life and I’m still not use to the humidity

Loved this video! Those pancakes looked delicious! I am actually a chocoholic so I make my own homemade Chocolate syrup that I put on pancakes and I bet it would taste great on these. Might sound strange but y'all should try it! If you want the recipe let me know. My great grandma's recipe!

These are my favorite landscapes…forests! Especially with killer rock outcroppings. I'm bored with deserts.

To fix your truck cover , try this . It only comes in green ( but you can color it black marker ) This parachute patch is tough stuff and sticks on really good . I used it to repaid a nylon jacket I have that had a hole in it . I've washed the jacket several times and the patch is still good . http://store.oldgrouch.biz/mipareadrima.html

I love that Sweety is trying to get that light spot in the back. =) It was cute and distracting during the video. Glad you had a good time visiting friends. Mammoth is a blast. My Angry Texan did it while on a TDY in 2006 or 2007. Looks really pretty there at Garden of the Gods. =)
