The badlands of New Mexico are some of the most bizarre terrain Jenni and I have ever seen. We were fortunate enough to camp right at the cliff edge overlooking the gorgeous badlands of Angel Peak. Here we walked along the ridges of massive hills that stretch out into these badlands which only increased our hunger for exploration.
Lucky for us, even more unusual badlands were fairly close by at Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness Study Area. Surrounded by Native Reservation land, this vast expanse of rolling clay hills is a strange land filled with hoodoos, petrified wood, and fossils. With no real trail to follow it is possible to get lost out here, but it’s okay, we weren’t out here alone.
We are caravaning with Thomas and Stacy of I’m Not Lost I’m RVing and they joined us on this adventure! We split up fairly soon upon reaching the Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah wash so we could explore at our own pace, but just knowing there were friends nearby – should we get lost – was a comforting thought.
