Broken! | Two Years of Full Time RV Repairs | Changing Lanes!

Over the course of our first two years on the road, we’ve had a few things break, and we’ve broken a few things ourselves. Everything from running into signs and trees to crushing our pantry door. We’ve made some mistakes! RVs, by nature, just tent to break also. It’s just an RV thing whether you’re in a million-dollar Prevost, or a$10K Pop-up. Most just fall into the Sh$% Happens category!

In this video, we cover every single thing that has broken or we broke:

Pin Box
Furnace
Tail Light Wiring
Body / Paint Damage
Slide Ski
Slide Topper
Pantry Door Crushed by Kitchen Slide
Cabinet Door Frost Scratches
Awning Light Fuses
Garage Tie-Downs
Fuel Pump
Hydraulic Systems Fuse
Levelers Popping
Front CAP LEDs
Microwave / Convection Oven
Under-Bed Storage Hinges
Screen Door
Fireplace Squeaking
Awning Arm Caps
MaxAir Fan Cover Lift
Leaf Spring!

Big giant shout out to Grand Design RV for having such great customer support that we know they have out back while under warranty.

And a HUGE Bonus thank you to Coulee Region RV Center for some AMAZING last-minute support!

  • When you call Grand Design you are Changing Lanes VIP with 214K subscribers! When we call Grand Design they are like “who? Get lost!”

  • Camping World is the worse. It took them 3 months to repair a broken coach window. Getting it fixed was miserable. That line if your not happy I’m not happy from Marcus is a joke. Great video.

  • I used RANDY OWENS also when we stayed in NC he was awesome plus all the other tecs told me it would be 2 to 3 weeks before they could get to it . Randy dropped everything and shuffed things around so he could help us our slide was stuck out and the park told me i had to move becouse they had my sight rented and they was full. SHOUT OUT TO RANDY QWENS

  • 40 years, five rv’s. Never an issue. Guess it’s luck of the Irish.

  • This video made me smile. Been there, fixed that on so many of the items mentioned. Came from the cruising boating world so being self reliant is nothing new.

So far 15 years of almost six months per year on the road. Four trips to Alaska. Trip number two to Newfoundland planned for this year, 22. We are rarely anywhere longer than a few days so everything is well used. All kinds of spares are carried onboard, even a spare axle.

Best accessory onboard is the navigator in the right seat. She knows what tools are & is not afraid to get her hands dirty.

  • We are currently in the Bradenton area! Nice to know you can get a paint repair through mobile service. Can we get the name of the service you used to get the paint fixed?

  • Hello Chad and Tara. Nothing is broken in our Reflection 303 in 2021
We had a refrigerator put in by Grand Design Mobil tech in 2020 everything has been awesome. We also upgraded the pinbox with a new 2nd gen air ride Reese Goosebox. Our question is what is the best time to go to Yellowstone National Park? We'd like to plan a 2022 trip.
    Thanks CUL Jake and Vernice

  • Making me feel better about all my things going wrong with my RV life. I was hit by a semi, have major repairs, and am thinking FT RV life. I am in a hotel for a month or tow while repairs are made. Paying for a hotel is breaking my bank. I can't see going on.

  • Hey guys, question. when you had your axle problem fixed in 3 hours, do you think that you got any special treatment because of your YT channel, or do you think they would have done the same for any poor schmuck like me 😀
Thanks and love your videos, keep them coming

  • I am glad you have had a good experience with Grand Design. We purchased a 2021 Reflection Series 150 5th Wheel 295RL from General RV in Ashland, VA and we have had nothing but problems. Both Grand Design headquarters and General RV have not been responsive and our RV has been out of service over 2 months this season. Have lost confidence in both companies. Will never do business with Grand Design and General RV!☹

  • Im handy but i cant afford new. So no one would send me parts. Glad you have that option .

  • Great shows, At 82 I am just now enjoying my REPAIR VEHICLE. Being a DYI I am handy understand what your are saying.

This video shows you have not repaired the wood damage on the inside when you put the slide out. I can walk you through the process or help you find someone in your area that can come to you to repair. Reply if you want help.

  • Just started watching ya'll. Good stuff! I am preparing to get a 'smaller' fifth Wheel and going full time. Never know, maybe I'll see you around 🙂 THANKS! Great videos.

  • Thank goodness I watched this. My man crush on Chad was strong, the ease he has explaining complex situations, the tools stored in the basement and his ability to use those tools ……what more can I say – I wanted to be like Chad. I’m thinking he was an ET (for those not in the know ET stands for extra testicle) in the Navy because of his smarts and common sense. 5 scratch’s – so he is human, a human that can fix his own errors in judgement. I have not watched a video production of Changing Lanes that I did not enjoy or learn something. I appreciate both of your hard work and hope to meet you on the road in a million years when I retire and go live the RV life for a couple of years. BZ friends.

  • In current Covid , supply chain , parts & personnel situations how would u handle a protracted RV( ur home) repair when the shops can not ( fir insurance reasons) let u sleep in it?

  • Your content is excellent and thank you for all you do to educate folks like me looking to get started with full time RVing.

  • I will gev your RV 75% after solar power u need to use AUSTRALIA suspensions &deference system 🧞‍♂️

  • So how much did it cost to repair the front cap when you hit that tree in Fort De Soto? (I assume the $300 was just for the previous scrape on the side, yes?)

  • Thank you for this video, the body damage segment made me feel better. Two months in I hit the gate at the house and shattered the rear side window and buggered up the corner trim…🙈

  • Hello. We are full timers for awhile. Yes stuff happens. Yes you need to be handy. I hope more newbees watch this. Most of the RV blogs are so much drama. Thank you for not being that way. I hope to see you on the road someday. We also ride motorcycle and would like to share a ride with you. Travel safe. Robert Woods.

  • slides are not worth the trouble. they ALWAYS get water damage. ALWAYS!

  • We just bought a 2018 Montana and we had same issue with our max air…we were able to purchase the gear boxes for $16 bucks a piece. We were out of warranty.

  • Nice video. I’m encouraged that though I’m sure you were stressed when these things happened that you were able to fix or have them fixed relatively quickly. We are hoping to get a GD Solitude 310 GK though we haven’t totally given up toy haulers as we may want to bring some bikes or motorized equipment. Also I think it would be a great place for our cats.

I appreciate your video and have subscribed so I can see your new ones as they come out but also plan to go back and watch the other maintenance videos especially.

Do you have a checklist for things to do before you move? Or a tool list? I’m sure I need a few more toys (I mean tools).

  • Are there not parking services available upon arrival to some of these tighter parks? Thx.

  • Gas cans I dismantled all that crap on the gas cap works good now

  • Every one knows that
