FIRST TIME Towing a Travel Trailer to a Campsite! – RVing in the USA

BIG RV travel day as we continue our series of RVing in the USA. After a 5.5+ hour drive it is also our first time using a back in campsite with our new travel trailer. Thankfully everything has worked well with towing a travel trailer and getting back in to full time RV living though as this is going to be a big 2022 RV season for us.

This Emigrant Springs State Heritage area made a great 1 Night stay as we continue our USA RV travels south towards DISNEYLAND for Chloe’s birthday! Then there will be lots of RV camping in our Jayco travel trailer LOTS of national parks and some amazing state park camping as well. So if you’ve enjoyed seeing our RV Living in Canada, hopefully RV living in the USA provides some fun new insights in to the RV lifestyle. Thanks for watching friends and we’ll see you next RV travel vlog as we head in to IDAHO next!

  • My husband and I have walkie-talkies. He backs in and I stand in the back and guide him…goes really quickly (I always make sure he can see me in the sideview mirrors). Giving directions, I say driver's side or passenger side instead of left or right…easier for him to understand which way he needs to turn.

  • We have the same WDH…love it! Don't have to remove trunnion bars when backing up. Make sure to grease the hitch (there are grease ports for that) often…and not the bars (that would be bad). We tow a camper with total length of 26 feet and GVWR of 6995 lbs, but we don't tow fully loaded.

  • Doing our first long trip later this summer. Am not trusting Google maps for navigating with a trailer.
    Will be using Hammer instead.

  • Hey Luke and Alysha and Chloe….Welcome to the USA!!!We used to watch you guys touring all your beautiful Provincial Parks…For a while you were silent with Chloe, and that is to be expected…Nice hearing you again…My Wife and I have been to 46 States, and many, many National and State Parks…The five National Parks in Utah are exceptional…Look them up on line to see for yourselves…Much different to what you are used to…Safe travels from Hank and Pam of South Texas

  • yep-water tank not full enough to get pump to prime

  • I’m so excited that you guys made it here…we’re in Connecticut. Enjoy your time in the U.S. ❤️

  • Make sure your batteries ( in your trailer)are turned on for your water pump to work.

  • Pick up a water regulator for your campground water attachment. Especially. In US.

  • Does your f150 have the 3.5 ecoboost just curious I have the same trailer without the slide out and wanted to know how the truck tows. I towed mine with a 2005 silverado 1500 and it didn't have the power I wanted so I bought a duramax but with diesel price now days I would like to go back to a gas truck

  • When backing in you can have Alysha on the speaker phone with you, helping guide you. You can communicate better than with just hand signals alone.

  • Goood job backing up! It gets easier the more you do! We did tons of practice and just takes practice. One trick we learned was put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel then you turn towards the way you want the trailer to go.. just till you can wrap your head around it. That worked for us.

You guys are doing great as it’s very different then a class C!! Excited to see all your adventures! We hope to go down south sometime in a few years! Chloe looks like she travels well

  • An amazing video! Really loved it. Not bad for a first time parking. You know you're just gonna get better as time passes. Curious on the water situation though. Also, not sure if you have it or not, but having a rear camera on the trailer might be helpful. Did I say I love these videos?

    Good luck!

  • Google Maps has lost its mind. I get the same kind of directions from Google now, and have to check the map closely to make sure it makes sense. Here's a tip; you can load one map on Google and another on Apple or other app that's compatible with your truck. Then switch back and forth on the truck screen. That might not be as useful for you as it is for me; I travel alone and don't want to be searching for gas or to add a gas stop on the fly (and they add the ones behind you when you do that).

  • That was a fun video and informative. Have fun, thanks for sharing.

  • You might try this. Put one hand on bottom center of steering wheel. Move your hand in the direction you want the trailer to go. Oversteering is normal at first. Watch the tail swing! Best wishes!

  • You did awsome in backing up one thing I did notice you do need blocks under your stabilizing jack's it's not good to extend them all the way down. Love watching your videos.

  • If I'm going to a campsite without water 💧 I get as close as I can then fill up my fresh water tank so I don't Haul it miles for nothing .

  • dear Ellen a blogs this is your friend John Chalker Waterbury Connecticut welcome to the USA just be careful and I think you guys should be traveling with full water tanks because what happens is you know if you need to stop or take showers or something cuz you got the baby that you should have full water tanks at least you should go with your black tank empty and your gray tank empty and your fresh water tank full so you know so you can be safe love you my brother and sister and Chloe CC 🙏🙏👼👼🇨🇦🇨🇦

  • Good idea to follow the truckers. Those guys are amazing. Well most of them are. Did you have to loosen or take off the sway bar when backing in? Chloe looks like a pretty good traveler. Stay safe guys. Cheers

  • Enjoying your adventures! Wishing you every happiness and success. A word of caution… share where you have been but NOT WHERE YOU ARE GOING. Safety FIRST. Good luck and God Bless.

  • Hi guys it's good to see you out and about again. Thanks for the videos. I am somewhat concerned about your tow set up, a 30' trailer and a half ton truck. You should for sure go through a flying J or Pilot with a scale. It only costs a few bucks and what you should be looking for is GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)on both truck and trailer. And most important GVCW (Gross Vehicle Combined Weight) it is this that you may be over the limits. Just drive safe and keep your distance. Have fun.

  • ❤🧡 awesome as and well done backing up and have an awesome day/night and love it ❤🧡

  • Your first time backing into a spot went well, Luke. I've just been the passenger and know how tricky it can be. Happy trails !

  • Hi Luke best advice I can give you from a truck driver is when backing up take your time .when in doubt, get out and check. you are doing fine, good call on not turning on a small road . I am sure also that the truck driver was using google maps like you. an RV GPS would .you set it for the length and height of your trailer. this way it does not take you to a tight spot or low bridge. on your sun visor just mark the height of your trailer, it helps when you are not sure before going under a bridge. safe travels with you and the family.

  • Great video! Glad to see you are enjoying your new set up. Curious question regarding the snow on the ground there. We have wintered on Vancouver Island and just getting ready to leave and head home. Wondering what we will encounter for snow….how long is the delay on your videos just get a feel for how much we might encounter in the mountains towing out 5th wheel?

  • Nice job getting that trailer in there in not ideal conditions! Its nice to see your trip as we'd love to go through the States too! Living vicariously!! 🙂

  • Practice, practice, practice. A little safety advice- invest in walkies, go slow and ALWAYS, ALWAYS have Alysha spot you.

  • You will find it easier to back in if you disconnect your your stabilizer bars

  • That hill you went up out of Pendleton is known as Cabbage Hill. It gets closed down at times due to ad weather between Pendleton and LaGrande. Cold in the winter and hot in the summer. You did great backing that trailer up. Welcome to Oregon..

  • Welcome to the US. Enjoy your time exploring the western part of the country, it is gorgeous! For sheer grandeur I recommend the Grand Canyon – over 1mile deep, as wide as the eye can see and over 180 degrees from your left to right. Years ago, I went rafting down it for 7 days and highly recommended that. For wildlife, Yellowstone is fantastic. Mountains, forest, and some plains areas, full of bison, bears, elk, wolves. Check out Lamar Valley, where bison graze across it’s 20mile(?) width. Safe travels and love your channel!

  • Well done guys… I'm following along and taking notes of the stops you're at. I own a 2020 King Ranch… so I know the comfort that you guys are in while on the road. Also, where is your kitty these days?

  • Good job backing in? I love the new truck trailer combo. I was on the fence what direction to go but I think you guys made the right decision.

  • You did a great job backing up Luke! Have fun and stay safe!
