โน๏ธ About the episode:
If you’re not familiar with the Death Wobble, it’s an issue related to a solid front axle that create a slight imbalance and shakes the steering wheel violently. RAM had the issue up until 2014 when they upgraded their steering joints with heavy-duty parts and now Ford Super Duty should do the same. Although the condition is scary – the solution is simple. Once you identify the joint that has play, replace it. It might be the drag link ball joint, but it could be the tie rods too. Then install a dual stabalizer kit that will not only take the force off the joints and prevent premature wear again, but also stop any imbalance from happening. We couldn’t be happier with the Icon Dual Stabilizers. You can get them from Stage 3 Motorsports or if you’re in Arizona, take a trip up to Summit 4X4 Company in Prescott, AZ to get it installed.

I guess I've been lucky, I've had 3 Superduty diesels and a ram 3500 HD, mileage ,has been anywhere from 50k kilometres on my 2019, upto 250k on my 2011 350SD, never had issues with death wobble on any of them.
Great Video! I agree……and for numerous reasons, the Ford Super Duty is the BEST Class 2 and Class 3 truck out there.
BTW………the Fox Race Series 2.0 ATS steering stabilizer is a great choice. Only a Single is required as it is unique among steering stabilizers. Probably good for replacing the factory stabilizer. Most likely still need the two opposing steering stabilizers on the tie rod…along with other upgrades in order to help minimize, reduce, eliminate the Death Wobble problem.
you know itโs cold outside when the snow crunches. I donโt miss that even a little bit. Great video Mark
Fix Or Repair Daily should have fixed this for you. I'm going through the same thing with my $72,000.00 2018. Pretty upset with Ford, as I e had fords since 74. Thank you for your pleasant advice and professional manner.
Wish these shops were on Seattle
Ok so I'm not tech savvy. I just got a 2016 Dodge Mega cab 3500 dually would something like this be a good idea for me ? I don't have a spouse so no one to ask that question to. TIA for advice
Hey got a question is it because you put a lift kit in it see I bought a 2021 Lariat 250 first one moved up from a 2013 150 Lariat I am not putting a lift or bigger tires so is this something I am going to want to do to this truck for safety reasons
I'll sum up the Death Wobble quickly. It happens in every vehicle known to man and it occurs from worn parts and poor wheel alignment, NO other cause. Not to steal your thunder, but you yourself were on the right track when you said within the first 2 minutes that you had a worn pitman arm joint. I smiled because someone FINALLY said what always causes Death Wobble whether you realized it or not! By the way beautiful beautiful house, I love the lite up snow covered deck! Kudos to your repair shops in AZ (I'm in PA) for demonstrating the knowledge and competency well trained/experienced shops should have. Further in diagnosing Death Wobble in a vehicle, a properly trained Wheel Alignment shop technician should perform "pre-alignment" checks where they look for any worn suspension parts because if any components are "loose" you can't and wouldn't be aligning ANYthing! So if you have death wobble, any good alignment shop should pick up on what's wrong or worn. Finding a good alignment shop such as you found is not that easy however. Unfortunately your Ford only has 30,000 miles and has worn steering components so be prepared to replace them again in another 30,000 miles even though the wear and resulting shaking will be masked by the beefy steering stabilizer you installed. That's a nice setup and will aid handling but I'll caution other people reading and watching this,, adding steering stabilizers don't ever FIX death wobble, only replacing WORN parts as clearly demonstrated in this video. Kudos to you as well for showing this video. Tell your wife nice job on the push-ups and for having interest in the mechanics of a truck too!
Love y'all utube, how long do y'all usually keep pick-up? Years r miles?
Hey guys, I have this kit on order for my truck as well. do you have any update on the wobble? Has the stabilizers completely remedied the problem? Is it starting to wear out again? Im interested because I have a sight shake right now and my dealership is telling me that its feedback from the power steering pump, which I would understand if the shake was constant, but its intermittent, so something is definitely loose under there.
Hope to hear its going well and the problem is still solved!
You have the best ๐
You had death wobble on a brand new unlifted F-250?
Very nice video…well done. But, 30,000 miles and a suspension issue on an $85,000 vehicle? What? Shame on Ford. Weight of the Diesel engine perhaps.
I donโt even own a truck and I love these videos. Haha
Any updates since your install? I just picked up a '17 F250 w/ 122k miles, and it darn near killed me driving home from Fl. Imagine the death wobble while driving I75N through downtown ATL in traffic…. Really considering that kit you recommended, and replacing some worn front end components. Would you mind sharing an update? Thanks! Love you guy!!
What was the cost of the install of the kit and what exactly was it called so I can google it.
Thanks
Is your truck stock hight?
I worked on Ford trucks that ran the Powerline roads across the desert. And F250 to F550. One of the biggest problems we had was the track Rod ball joint. This Rod parallels the steering linkage it goes from the power steering box out the steering knuckle.
It's easy to check, with the engine off and the key in the second position have someone wiggle the steering wheel back and forth, while you're watching the track rod ball joint. You'll see it wiggle back and forth as the axle moves side to side. It's rare that the bushing goes bad usually just the ball joint end is loose. No need to install Double steering stabilizers, but they do a good job of masking the issue.
You need a good ball joint press to change it out oh, you know the one you use an impact wrench on….
Retired LADWP mechanic
Must be a reason Mark is so Ford loyal when purchasing a tow vehicle that does not have a solid front axle seems much easier cost effective….
I have no idea why people keep buying Fordโs
Ford dealership: That's normal, nothing to worry about.
Why did you choose the icon over the BDS ?
To cure this problem permanently, Ford is going to have completely change the front suspension and steering components. from the solid front axle to control arm suspension and steering components. that's the only way Ford is going to get rid of this condition.
he should sue ford for an unsafe vehicle
Am I the only one that had no idea it snows in Arizona?
Why would you assume they wouldn't fix the problem on a recall? Any vehicle recall I've had for the last 20 years has been a permanent fix not a bandaid. Kinda seems like you're shilling the aftermarket solution. The in-cab multi gopro angle shot with the bad acting isn't helping.
The Icon kit is expensive because it says Icon on it. Overpriced overhyped products.
Safety related recall please ford
Is there somewhere you have your complete mod setup for your new F250?
