We’ve heard lots of interesting stories from fellow full time RVers and travelers. But one episode in particular we knew was going to happen to us eventually – being bullied and told to leave a campsite we knew we were allowed to camp in.

I've been living on the road for over 7 years, sorry to say, this is far from the last "challenging" person you will run into.

Ive had a similar experience on the Appalachian Trail, near New Found Gap. My daughter and I had been backpacking many times before using modern equuipment, but this time we decided to find our why armies that have had backpacks often drop their packs in favor of Bedrolls. By the way, it is a much. more comfortable experience. But on the way back, this guy appears and tells us that we are not allowed to be there to play army. Well, my daughter was a few feet beyond the man so I was very nice to him in my reply. I explained why we were using bedrolls as opposed to tech pack. He thought for a moment and then said that it was okay and that we could move on. I was actually incensed, that some jerk could come along like it was his Appalachian Trail, and tell me what I could do or what I couldn't to in regard to gear. The guy was a loon.

This is classic case of NIMBY National Park Version. She loves to use the park for riding her horses and doesn't want it "spoiled" by anyone else. You and your RV conjured up all the worst she had seen, heard of, or imagined. National Parks in the US are a treasure and RV's should not be where they are not supposed to be (picnic, tent only) etc. But for her to try too pull this one on you is just plain selfish. I worked for the park service in Canada and we would always get calls from people complaining about other people and while they truly believed that they were correct it ultimately came down to the fact that they dd not understand that "recreational "use of land is very broad not just what they considered recreation. However, there are some people who can become unhinged and you did the proper thing. Very politely suggest that you have done all your homework on your site and offer to call the authorities to make sure. You can also "bond" a bit by saying you enjoy the peaceful natural beauty and have no intention of burning it down. I always carry a small round mouth shovel in my van and having that on hand with bucket of water goes a long way to dousing the "fires' of their fear. Safe and peaceful travels!

LOL…! Oh my, cranky, selfish people. Good move to CALL YOURSELF. BTW now with cell phones, its soooo easy to "casually" take a photo of suspicious vehicles, plates and individuals. And then casually let them know you have their info and you've just emailed it to your family if things accelerate. That should quell 90% of those people. The other 10%, unpredictable and unstable, so listen, to your gut. Be cautious, not fearful ! Stay Well. Peace Out.

People are so ridiculous! On a different note…. you should get yourself a propane fire pit. No smell, no allergies…. Just a great time sitting around a fire and relaxing. 100 bucks on Amazon! Might not be for everyone but I think campfires are an amazing part of the experience.

If you want a fire ring that doesn't throw smoke (once you get it started) get a solostove. Bit pricey, but im a full time RVer and I like hanging out around a campfire, but hate coming in smelling like the inside of a chimney. Everyone that hangs out around it is amazed at the no smoke and ends up buying one for their site

Help is on the way. Stay there until it arrives. The people have heard you call for assistance. Be there in 3 weeks after the pandemic is over.

Having volunteered for the Forest Service as a back country ranger…the locals believe they OWN the forest. Forest Service does not close campgrounds without posting signs. Forest Service not Sheriffs control, and if you are in conflict with forest rules, they EDUCATE you…not write tickets… You WILL know if the forest is closed…and it wont just be a dry campground, signs will tell you.. BUT you can always call or stop by a ranger station and they will give you LOTS of information ( but they too can give you opinionated personal opinions rather than the law).. I have asked for a copy of the forest order and pissed off employees…but the forest employees were WRONG and just decided they wanted to make some rules they are not allowed to make..

"Crazy Cheryl" might actually be the National Forest KAREN. I can't even imagine how someone could think they have the right to intimidate people.
