Honda Propane Conversion Kit – Less Power?? Engine Damage?? Video Part 1 – EU2200i EU2000i

Does propane produce less power? Will propane damage my generator? These are the most common questions when converting to propane. In this video, we show that not all conversion kits are the same. With proper setup and design from our kits, there should be very little issues with alternative fuels.

  • It’s a good add but diesel is you number one best Energy source with gas being the second. Propane coming in third place for overall combustion power.

  • I applaud your efforts! An intro might have been nice. But I could follow what you were saying. You answer a big question about whether LP is harsher on the Hondas than premium gas. ??? I'm going to say no. We installed an LP conversion on our eu2200i. It would not allow the AC to run without going into overload. But if we went back to premium gas, it would run the AC decent.
Then we installed a MicroAir Easy Start on the Dometic AC from Hutch Mountain. Simple.
Now we can run the AC for up to 10 hours or more on 20# LP, enabling us to boondock anywhere.
My take is that LP burns hotter than NatGas. But Premium gasoline burns hotter than LP. I conclude the Honda won't be harmed. But time will tell.

  • Impressive video, succinct and thorough…THANKS!!

  • I want to remove the Larger demand regulator from the smaller high pressure regulator so I can plumb it to my RV's propane existing regulator. What size threaded male comes out of the larger demand vacuum regulator that threads into the smaller high pressure regulator. Is it a 3/8" male? Just planning so I can order all parts.

  • Andy, can you tell me if your Grenergy adapter will let the door clear if used on an EU1000i? I know everything else will fit and work fine. I've adapted many of these before the kits were available. Your kit looks great!

  • Fuel is fuel.
If you're losing power it's because you have the wrong regulator installed. You need a LOW pressure regulator for the small Honda unit's.

  • Propane will produce less wattage but it is cleaner than gasoline.

  • Propane doesn’t have the energy density of gasoline so, it works fine as a fuel but, you’ll get 30 percent less output for the equivalent amount of fuel.

  • you should have gone duck hunting instead. I hear them flying over your head!!!

  • The propane unit will freeze up in the cold 🥶
I’m from Canada when they did propane conversion on trucks/car Years ago they had to keep the propane vaporizer warm with the coolant temperature of the vehicle.
Sometimes the propane unit would freeze up and you have to pour hot water on it 🤷‍♂️

  • Great video man. What is the appeal to hook up propane to a generator? Can you run it indoors? Can any run indoors? Thx.

  • Can it be installed on the honda 22i model?

  • Hi Grenergy,
In a normal gasoline engine the intake valve is constantly being cleaned with gasoline. And propane doesn't have the cleaning capability like liquid gasoline , so carbon build up in the valve seat due to crankcase evaporation and ventilation into the intake may cause long term problematic operation. I 've never heard anywhere online mentioned this potential problem . But I have heard that some modern direct injection engine use in the early eco boost F150 have carbon build up in the intake because only air is passing through the intake valves which also sucking the oil vapor of crank case by design . So what do you think ?

  • My GEN runs fine when idle up and under load on propane, however, when I have the ECO throttle set and rpm lowers, if a load kicks in, it starts spitting and missing. This occurs almost all the time. Any suggestions; is this a common problem?

  • What can run hotter in the engine is the piston. Gasoline will evaporate when entering the combustion chamber taking some of the heat from the top of the piston When you run natural gas or propane there is no heat transfer due to evaporation so the piston will run hotter. The intake valve will also run hotter due to lack of liquid fuel removing heat from the valve when it enters the combustion chamber.

  • What do the circular air vents do? The generator is designed to have a certain airflow from front to back via engine powered fan.
