How to Start Your Spray Foam Rig for the First Time [Step by Step]

Before you do anything, start in the back of the trailer and run through a preliminary new rig checklist:
• Check for adequate oil supply in the generator
• Check for adequate fuel supply
• Check for adequate oil supply in the compressor
• Look at breakers to make sure all are set to “off”

(0:40) Inside the Spray Foam Trailer
Putting the A-side pump into the drum:

• Remove the cap from the new transfer pumps
• Open drum and install pump
– Make sure to get the collar threaded tight onto the pump
• Install the desiccant dryer onto the return tube
– For brand-new dryer cartridges, remove the top and bottom caps, and then install where the flow of air (arrow on the side) points down toward the drum
• Twist the return tube onto the drum
– Make sure to add fusion grease onto any threads on the tube
• Put the A-side pump into the drum and repeat on the B-side

(2:34) Back at the Start-Up Generator and Compressor

• Turn on the power to the trailer
• Start the generator, then let it come up to speed and smooth out
• Flip the generator power switch in the breaker to start the compressor, then wait for it to reach the set point

(2:55) Back Inside the Trailer:

• Hook up the airline to both transfer pumps
• Adjust the air to feed the pumps to where they need to be
– (When introducing chemicals into the system for the first time, slowly introduce the air to equipment to ensure the pumps stay in place and do not break loose.)
• Open the machine valves to send the chemicals into the heated system and eventually spray hose
• Open both hose valves into a disposable bag to run the chemicals through the hoses
• Turn the switch on the side of the Greco machine to introduce power to it for the first time

(3:45) With Power On:
• First, set your targets, take all 3 heaters and the motor pressure to your desired setting
• Toggle to the fluid screen to increase the drum level in both drums
• Turn on the hose heater first (it takes the longest to warm up)
• Turn A & B heaters on and watch the numbers rise
• Once both pressures are mostly equal you can begin to prepare the gun to spray

(5:00) Getting ready to spray:
• Install the spray gun onto the gun manifold
• Put fusion grease on the threaded insert (to avoid getting ISO stuck inside the gun head)
• Once the spray gun is tightly attached, install the airline onto the back of the gun
• Test to make sure air is coming out of the hose before opening the fluid valves
• Open fluid valves to begin spraying
• Test the spray foam on a disposable surface to make sure no chemical is spewing out
• Inspect the foam to ensure it is a proper mix of ISO and resin
• Start spraying!
