  • What if my neutral and my ground bus are the same there is no separate panel separate bus bar it's all going to the same on the overall box for the whole entire setup for the whole house

  • Terry What are the settings on the OHM metering device you used here?

  • Good installation practice for me has always been to remove any rings or other metallic devices from the parts of my body that are inside a potentially live panel or box. Terry should be going above and beyond in safety practices as others are going to emulate him.

  • Well, you put the he receptical in upside down. The ground hole goes to the top and the blade holes go on the bottom.

  • I don't know anyone that plugs their RV in to a receptacle that's inside a building.

  • Ground wire connector needs to be on top (you installed the plug upside down). It will be a problem if you use an RV cable with a 90-degree elbow (the elbow will be facing upwards which will be awkward).

  • What if you only have a 30 amp double pole breaker but only needs 30 amps for the RV?

  • Just now seeing this. What do you seal the hole with between the house and the new box? so mice will not get in

  • This video is embedded in this article:
    https://axleaddict.com/rvs/How-to-Install-an-RV-Outlet-at-Home

Using the text from the article here is the relevant text provided:
Neatly route the ground wire to the ground bus, following the path of existing wires, to where all the other grounds are terminated, loosen a screw as necessary and terminate the ground wire. Again, that bare ground wire is likely going to come close to the hot main breaker. Be careful! Do the same with the white neutral wire after stripping about ½" of insulation from it.

The text says to terminate the white wire on the ground bar not the neutral bar; at least that is how I read it.
And there is no further instruction for the white wire.
Since I was following the text…that is what I did and everything works.

Is it either or and you're fine?
    Thanks!

  • Looking to do this at my home. Wire length from panel to location inside my garage is 30', give or take. If I want to run wire for a potential 50 Amp upgrade later on, would running 8/3 wire be adequate?

  • Great video Terry. Question though. I have a 20 amp fuse in my fuse box that serves the outside outlets on the house and garage. I'm guessing that I need to replace the 20 amp with a 30 amp breaker first. Then, can I remove one of the outside outlets and install the 30 amp plug?

  • Excellent explanation except for the receptacle being mounted upside down. Ground in an RV plug ALWAYS at the TOP.

  • If the 30 AMP RV plug is located outside (Weather proof box) should you use a 30 AMP GFI breaker in the panel? If all other outside outlets require GFI why not the RV plug? Please comment

  • Perfect. Thanks for your time my good sir! You saved me hundreds

  • Very well done video. I watched a bunch! This one is by far the best. Thanks!

  • internet electrical? i am the internet floor covering man then

  • Good ole Google search found your video and Im glad it did. Your information was straight forward and easy to follow. Will be doing this very project this weekend. Thank you for posting.

  • Perfectly explanation step by step!!! Marvelous!!! Thank you so much for this video!! You do not how much help me doing this!!!

  • You mounted the receptacle upside down. The ground should be at the top so when you plug your RV in the cord hangs down and not coming up which will stress the cord and receptacle. You are obviously not an RVer, but not the worst video. Thanks.

  • Thank you for sharing all the way from Nicaragua

  • Of all videos that I ‘ve watched installing a new 30 amp, this is the best and more simple, congratulations!

  • Thank you Terry for this informative video! This gives me a step by step guide to wire up my 30amp plug for our RV! I called an electrician first and he gave me an estimate of $5,200! I hope I wasn't too rude when I said, "Dude, you must be out of your mind!" Anyway, now I'm heading to Home Depot first thing in the morning and get everything I need and do this myself!! Thanks again!

  • Thank you very much great video very informative and your a great teacher!

  • Jeez, hury up and install the box already. 😴

  • So helpful! Is the grounding bus bar needed in the main service panel or only if I’m using a sub panel?

  • Can’t thank you enough. Your a great teacher. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. God Bless

  • Thanks by following this i was able to install my 30 amp hookup without issue

  • Should i clip ground wire in box xtra wire cud touch hot wire ahh?

  • What if I have stranded 10awg. Can I still insert stranded into those screw compressions or should I use a terminal to connect to the screws themselves. If so what terminal do you recommend? Hook terminal ok?

  • For someone building a camper van, how do you install a 30 amp system, and what do you need so that you can terminate it at the battery to charge it?

  • I have a question, will it still work if I have to run my wire about 300 feed to the panel.?

  • 7 years later and still a great instructional video. About to install my new RV receptacle this weekend!
