OUR FIRST MOTORHOME TRIP! Prepping Our Rental Class C for Travel

The first priority when prepping our rented Cruise America Class C for travel is to safely install the car seats for our two youngest children. We share our whole installation process including what didn’t work at first and what we ended up figuring out to keep everyone safe! We also go on our first fully-loaded motorhome drive, including setting up at a campsite and getting ready for our first night in a Class C.

  • I know this is a really old video, so I doubt you will see this comment, but do you happen to know if there were top tethers on the other side of the table? You're the only video I can find who talks about car seats in this rv!

  • Such an awesome video! I'm considering buying one of these used rigs from them instead of getting a truck and trailer and this video was so helpful regarding the car seat issue!

  • Love this rig, but I don't think i'd be able to get it without being able to properly put the carseats in. :/ This would be the perfect size for what we need though. We'd likely have to buy all new carseats. I love how ya'll were able to figure the carseats out, and the table up looks fantastic for kiddos who are doing activities or having tablet time. So much more fun than a car.

  • Why can’t the RV manufacturers makes this a breeze . It just doesn’t makes sense.

  • You are not supposed to use those car seat at all as they only have the lap belt and the belt is only attached to seat which in case of an accident with rip out easily. By law you can only use regular seatbelt and they recommend using the passenger seat for kids car seat and the other adult to sit in the back where you placed your car seats. If you you have second child is old enough you can use a simple booster seat and just use the lap belt. If you travel with kids that are needing proper seats they recommend towing camping that way the kids would sit a safe and regularly belted car.

  • Class A and C RVs do not require any safety regulations to protect children in RVs. I would not feel safe with my children in the back of this RV.

  • Great vid. Did i miss what kind of car seats you got at Walmart?

  • We are renting a camper RV for the summer. We have two toddlers 2 & 4 yrs old. How long did you camp?

  • We're considering living in an RV for a while and I have so many questions about car seat travel

  • The car seat suppose come with a base, who is connect to the chair and keep car seat stable

  • I like your idea but I will have one infant car seat and a rear facing bigger seat and a front facing seat.

Grrr trying to find one that has three car seat to places

  • Hello – I just started watching your videos. We are family of 6 who have never used an RV and just learning. Hoping to get one in the next year. Question – Is the absence of levelers on the cruise America rvs a concern? How do level them? Do they move/rock without them? If you bought one would recommend adding an automatic leveling system if possible? Did I miss you talking about this?

  • Hi my name is chelsea crow and I have 2 kids we use the graco four in one carseats for our kids

  • I watched both videos now. I'm more prepared than I was before. Tomorrow is the big day! I've never driven something 30 feet long so I will learn on the fly!

  • Here's a safety tip that works like a charm: Don't have kids…works every time!

  • Nice review. We’re thinking about renting a 30 footer an I’m nervous about driving it in traffic and such! Maybe we should just do the 25 ft with less room.

  • I'm trying to find that carseat! Any help anyone? Thanks for sharing all the tips!

  • Omg thankyou so so so much I have been looking at renting an rv for about 3 years now but been to worried to do so with my 2 babies because of the car seat situation but now I have seen your video I am definitely comfortable on taking them in car seats. Great help loved it

  • We are about to try the same thing with car seats on our class c I could tell you what happens then!

  • If you need to wash your rig weather being motorhome ra 5th wheel travel trailer you can stop in any truck wash and for 40 to $60 depending on how long it is they come out spotless

  • Would the carseats be more secure if you removed the bench cushions?

  • you are wonderful and safe with your kids carseats, good for you, perhaps you would be interested in knowing that there are dog harnesses that clip into the carseat buckle and can be attatched to the seat next to your older daughter, i use it for my dog on a car bed and if the car/RV shifts the dog stays put. happy traveling and thanks for your great channel

  • The big windows in dinning area making big rattling noise while driving? We did test driving a couple of 2015 Thor Majestic last couple of weeks. Windows n shower door etc. making big rattling noises. Did you notice the noise while driving?

  • I know that no one is perfect, and there are no perfect families…but I really, really, really like watching yours!!! The thing that I love the most is watching you work together. More than anything else, I love that the most. Just watching the dynamics of how you talk to one another, discuss and problem solve for your family, like real people, but with lots of love and respect. I love watching your channel. You have great tips and concerns that affect real people. I know I said "real" alot, maybe should say authentic. I don't know you personally, but you are a Mom and Dad that resonates with me. Thank you for the best family type camping videos. My "kids" are 41 and 32, and we can't wait to go camping with my grandkids

P.S. Cruise America should pay you because I never would have thought of purchasing one before you showcased this option on your channel and I am sure I am not alone. Too bad not alot.of inventory on the East Coast.
Please keeping making the best videos, I look forward to them!!!!!

  • Jealous! I couldn't get the king sheets even close in the cab over bed in my 23A rental. The T-shirt stretchy material is a great idea. I finally ended up using the flat sheet with mattress bungys (bungees?) and blankets over that. Also had to get egg-crate mattress toppers for the back bed – much more comfortable!

  • The suspense is building….can't wait to hear your thoughts on the full experience!

  • Here's just a few thoughts and ideas:

    1. I love the design of having a solid door covering the shower. It would seem to me if that door could also swing out towards the bedroom, then that could also eliminate the curtain in the back and give you "true" privacy. Now my guess is that you'll end up getting a 2015 model. But there is no reason why that can't be modified later.

    2. I found when I had my Class "C" that we were "always" driving with the overhead bed in the down position (Yes, you have to bend down a little more to get into front chairs). However, this gives to 2 advantages: First, the bedding stays in place. You'll find that all 3 kids will want to sleep up their. You'll be able to design 3 separate areas for each to have their own space. You can create 3 simple "partial" dividers or three child mattress's. Specialty sleeping "zipper" systems (like beddys.com) will give your children the independence of easily making their own beds so mom and dad will no longer need to to climb up to assist. Second, now that you decided to "permanently" keep that bed down you can create a custom lighting system for the cab area. What I did was purchase 1/4 plywood, glued beige colored vinyl on the bottom, and put it in between the bed and the cab (Creating a custom "ceiling" in the cab area). On that new ceiling I installed some map reading lights. I then installed a van chair "swivel rotating bracket" ( on the passenger side) which created a useful reading area when not driving.

    3. You have a great opportunity to do something special this Christmas with your motorhome. We call it "A Moving Christmas Party." Take your family of 5 and 4 guests (your rig holds 9) and tour the Christmas houses in your area. Play Christmas music in the motorhome, serve hot cocoa and desert, You can either stop off in front of these homes or drive slowly by. We have been doing this for the last five years and love it.

  • Leave the car seats in place and eat, even when full timing. Just throw a beach towel or make a cushioned cover.

  • So, having walked through the 2015/2016 for-sale unit and then actually using this 2020 unit, do you see meaningful differences? All things being equal, is there enough change to warrant waiting for the 2020s to go on sale in a few years?

  • I'm wondering how the car seats would work without the cushions on? We've had the same mini van for 5 years with all the types of car seats I think so I know how they work in our van. LOL We did recently get a Bubble Bum booster seat to fit in between a couple of seats like you have. One of these days we're hoping to delve into RV owning (or travel trailer owning if the babies keep coming lol) The shorter bed would be a deal breaker for my tall husband. We have a Cal King and his feet still hang off. LOL Thank you for the video.

  • The owner’s manual should have how this rig is set up for child restraint systems, but then as you know (&said) there are many types of car seats & we (car seat techs) always believed that shops should let you take a seat out to the vehicle (in their parking lot) to see if it fits the vehicle and child.

  • For anyone following along it's easy to see what a retail model of this RV looks like. Search for Thor Motor Coach Four Winds or Chateau lines and see them. None are exactly like the rental rigs, the rentals are purposefully built to be sturdy and easy to operate.
