Proper Battery Connect and Converter Use | Pete's RV Quick Tips

http://PetesRVCenter.com RV Lifestyle Consultant Randy Murray demonstrates how to properly connect your camper battery and locate the power converter.

It is important to recognize with a camper battery that the white cable connects to the negative ( – ) terminal and the black cable to the positive ( + ) terminal. Manufacturers commonly display proper battery terminal connections near the battery box. If not, battery care and maintenance is definitely covered in your RV owner’s manual.

Randy also points out the camper’s power converter and how to identify 40 amp fuses. These particular fuses are prone to blowing when the battery and terminal cables are not properly or securely connected. It is always a good idea to tape extra fuses inside the lid of the power converter.

  • Great tip. Just fixed about 10 hours of work in 2 minutes after watching your vid.

  • I could really use an answer to my question. It’s a question that I can’t really find the answer to. I understand to disconnect the battery if the RV will be in storage. But my camper stays plugged up year round in covered storage. Do I still need to disconnect the battery even if I am hooked to shore power year round. Thanks in advance from anyone.

  • Some people confuse the black.. Because in a car, Black is Negative and Red is positive…. A way to not be confused on a rv is to put some Red Electrical tape on the Black(positive) connection, and put Black tape on the white(negative) connection…

  • Great video, I had no idea that black and white are reversed on RVs!

  • Randy, Thank You! Headed out for our first campout of 2019 and once arrived found no battery power. You said to check and/or replace
the 40 amp fuses before looking to replace converter. Replaced both and all is good! You helpful hints made for an enjoyable camping experience. Gary

  • May have hooked up my battery cables wrong and blew out the 2-30 amp fuses. When I hooked them up the right way they still blow. When I check the voltage on the fuse holder without the fuses in I get a reading of 12 volts. Then again when I install the fuses they blow. Any ideals or help would be greatly appriacted Thanks. Francis.

  • Is my microwave and TV supposed to be able to work if running just with the battery and not with generator or 30amp cable plugged in….?

  • Now I know where my stand alone convertor for is hidden..thanks

  • ok so I just bought a 2010 comfort trailblazer. we were at this dealer all day and everything was working great. when we got home and tried plugging it into our house outlet just to get these ready for our trip, it just trips the breaker every time. what can I do to solve this problem? we bought a brand new battery and still keeps tripping the breaker. my husband is at a loss and we are both very upset about this. anything you could suggest?? thanks so much for your time

  • Randy,, great presentation.

Just got home from a 500 mile trip and noticed a small gauge white wire dangling down near the axle with an end attached, after watching your video I can assume this wire is a ground, what do you think? It has an end on it like it was attached to a screw that fell out or rusted off.

  • Randy, do you have a video for if our trailer doesn't have a heater at all and we want to install something?

  • Using the terms "Lead" and "Ground" for your terminals would make less confusion and more sense than Negative and Positive

  • If something is on in the trailer and I am connecting my battery using the screw, can I get shocked or am I k as long as I'm not touching the other post? It's my first time so I'm a little nervous
