I did a lot of diagnosing and troubleshooting to try and figure out why our Dometic RV fridge stopped cooling or working at all on both electric and propane but in the end I was only able to find out what wasn’t wrong with it. We decided to take the RV into a dealership to have it repaired under warranty. If only it was as easy as it sounded to have something fixed under warranty… We ended up having to DIY repair this issue.

You should have probably just replaced the circuit board off of Amazon 1-2 day shipping. They run around $100.00 and are easy to replace. Then fight with Dometic with the Attorney generals office and mail them back the old board and demand a refund. If you take it to your AG office then you get moved to a special customer service department within Dometic.

well, at least you didn't have to replace the engine in the truck… AND you could leave! Could have been much…much worse. and yep… I also have a dometic fridge, supposedly it has a 3 year warranty. but, I also don't hold much hope if it were to die that it would be covered, good job repairing it yourself, as it's usually the best option. Sometimes …. a lot of times, so called techs, make matters worse. or lets just say the break more than they fix.

What were the part numbers for the old board and the replacement board?

What is the point of the warranty if you're still basically paying for everything anyway. Wow. I'm sorry

    Thanks for sharing your experience.

    what exactly were your symptoms?

our fridge seems to switch from AC to gas without issue. It just doesn't cool.

What about driving to the next closest authorized repair place that DOES have the part?

Doesn’t sound like much of a warranty if you have to pay all of that. Is BS. 👍👍😁 glad it worked out well.

That diagnostic time is lying its backside off. Never let nyone hav ur TT without checkin reviews. For goodness sake review them and save everyone else a lot of grief. You can build that board from scratch n less time than that. If you don’t find out about them before. Best advice on rv repairs if you don’t KNOW the folks doing the work do it yourself no matter how difficult it is. The only recorse after you let a shark like get their hooks in you is small claims court. That or get charged with assault. Last time I did it was just a 50$ fine. Was way worth it to.

I am not full time and in some cases, maybe, but at others, being a part-timer has it advantages. Point, I have a 2018 Keystone Outback 266RB with BAL 7.2 auto-leveling system. First year, no issues, levelers and the stabilizers worked flawlessly. Second year out and at the very first RV stop, the rear stabilizers failed to operate. yes, I can manually lower with the old turn handle, but being a electrical- mechanical system, I feared I would mess the system. Plus it makes it much more difficult to lower and raise the stabilizer. Thank goodness our bed is in the front of the trailer so no movements in with the front stabilizers in place.. Got back from our adventure, called the dealer cause yes we have the extended warranty. It took the dealer a month to get support from BAL on troubleshooting the system. Turns out it was the control board, kind of like your fridge. Except this board is much more involved than just removing some connectors. Anyway, the point is if we were full time, yea, a month is not an option. Just a observations on pros and cons of RVing. The dealer was remarkable, it was the manufacture.

Don't feel bad. Our friend had his Board on the Fridge in his winnebago go out and Dometic jacked them around three times and it took several months to actually get it fixed. The board was NOT the problems, Then. second board was sent and it too failed. After the next step they made the deal do failed as well, Dometic FINALLY shipped an entire fridge and that finally fixed the problem.

The salesman doesn't say these are normal scenarios with warranty. Great for sales pitch when you're looking to buy a trailer but in reality "warrantee's aren't worth a dam"!!!!!

Thanks for this video. The same thing just happened to me and I share your exact sentiments. RV is 4 months old and fridge just stopped cooling on electric and gas. The check light is not lit. I will NOT be putting my sanity at the mercy of the dealer or any repair shop. Shame on the entire RV industry for shoddy work and nickel and diming it's customers for warranty work. Every vehicle and home warranty job I had done was done quick and professional…RV issues should be no exception.

Yeah, I tried to use my extended warranty but I would have to still pay the $100 ded.  It was just cheaper to do it myself.  Saying you have a warranty or extended warranty really doesn't mean anything anymore.  It is all a hassle.

My frig may have quit. So I am going to diagnose. No warranty. I would have asked what would take 6 hours to diagnose. Sounds like a scam.

Well done. If only I could get my frig working in my travel trailer. If the diagnostics you did on your own are such that they aren't too hard to explain, could you provide the steps you took so that, maybe, I could follow suit? Thanks!

So feel your pain. We RVed for 30 years leisurely. Repair was a nightmare. It’s really why we sold our last one. We are 75 & 74 and just could not deal with stress any more. We owned a Phaeton made by Allegro. We actually had to stay 9 weeks in Red Bay AL, (aka-HELL BAY) DURING SEVER TORNADO SEASON. for repairs THOUGHT WE WOULD DIE THERE. We live in New Orleans so very happy you enjoyed our city. Miss the freedom of open road. Enjoy cause in the good times, it’s fantastic way to see the country.

David, I gotta tell you, I have been glued to your vids for 2 days now. Really love em. You and Jenny seem to be so happy. Not much of a cat or rabbit guy here but sweetie is precious and it brings a tear to my eyes when you get her to bark. 😂 I only hope you guys are still out there when my wife and I get started. If you two wouldn't mind, we would love to meet you sometime.

I really think you should pitch your work to maybe like the travel channel or something like that. You r work is excellent, very well edited, informative, wholesome and I just feel good after watching you two.

God bless you all. Sweetie (and the cats and rabbits too) lol

Sorry that you guys had this problem but owning an RV is like owning a small house on wheels( At least from watching the videos). As I'll be going ft shortly, I'm going to buy a $500 truck (plug in) frig/freezer as a backup locating it between front driver/passenger seats. It seems a lot of videos meantion problems with RV frig/freezers. RV's past warranty period is what I'm buying:)

Why didn’t you just chuck a block of ice in your fridge and go on vacation then drop your trailer off on your way back? A block of ice cools very well.
