RV Newbie Mistake / Full Suspension Rebuild in KOA Campground /Equaflex, Dexter & Wet Bolt Upgrade

RV Newbie mistakes on our first travel trailer in 2019. We had to rebuild our entire Equaflex Suspension, Dexter Axels, Heavy Duty shackle kit and wet bolt upgrade all while staying in a KOA. We want to share with others so no one will make the same mistake that we did. Definitely a must watch for new RV owners or folks that are looking at buying an RV.

RV Checklist we use: Ultimate RV Checklist can be found in the App Store and www.fackbook.com/rv.checklist

Going full time RV living real soon and waiting or our new home to be built and delivered. We are set up in warmer weather and reflecting on our previous travel trailer and the newbie mistake that we made, but hope others my learn from our life’s lessons. Don’t overload your tailer/RV, etc. weigh your unit before you take off on your trips. We’ve learned this the hard way, now we weigh our RV loaded with our things and with a truck full of diesel to ensure we are under weight for both RV and truck.

  • This was stressful trying to get back to Alaska. Parts were hard to find, but glad we were able to get our previous travel trailer fixed and safely through Canada and back up to Alaska.

  • Glad you made it safely to the campground! We had a similar close call after buying a new Fifth Wheel. I failed to check the torque on the lug nuts and almost lost a wheel. Thankfully my wife was following behind me and noticed the wheel was wobbling. I was down to just 4 lug nuts out of 8. The other studs were sheared off. We just happened to be 4 miles from our KOA stop and on 2 lane road so I limped down the road at 15mph. Had to take apart the hub, replace all the studs, lug nuts, and the wheel since the holes were now oval shaped.
