SEDONA DIDN'T GO AS PLANNED | EP 99 with RV TIPS

Let’s make this the #SummerToRemember with the KYD Limited Edition T-shirt!

Sedona, AZ seems to be the destination we try new things. This was the first time we took the new rig (“Grand Ginger” – our Grand Design 312BHTS Travel Trailer) onto the dirt roads to dry camped on BLM land. The first mistake we made was taking a fire road off of a fire road. We’ll leave those roads for the truck campers and class B’s and stick to the main fire road next time! The next mistake we made was not arriving with plenty of water and turns out our 2 6v batteries were not suitable for the amount of power we needed during this trip.

Maybe you’ve had a similar trip where things don’t seem to come together. In this video, we offer some tips and ideas to help your trip back on track.

My question for you is….what type of bugs and creatures did you encounter, especially around the campfire at night?

Pushups at the dump station.????. No , no, no…. you have come so far. You now have the 50 gallon water bladder on your gear list. So I’m guessing you don’t buy water 2 gallons at a time, much, anymore!!!!

Plan B is always good. I was at a rally that was basically in a field. Too much rain, and the field was a mud pit. One particular rainy evening, I couldn't get any TV signal, couldn't get any data inside the camper. I gave it up, went to a movie, and on the way back, saw a Pilot, and took a hot shower without walking through a mud pit to the shower trailer.

Loved the end of this video where you talk about what really goes on. I think it is so important for people to see that. I was so impressed on how you handled trying to find a campsite in the dark. I would be getting so frustrated at that moment. One thing I am definitely taking from your videos is enjoying the moment and rolling with the punches. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Love that Sedona wind, and that very very fine red dirt that gets in everything!!! And to run out of water? Ouch. The air is so dry, you have no idea you are dehydrating yet you are, which may have caused your headache that first morning even….great vid as always. Love it.

Folks thanks for the Sedona "hell" trip. What you said about looking back and memories really hit home. I spent months planning and prepping for a week camping with my father. We got all set up in the perfect spot, and we lasted a day and a half. I had to rush my dad to the ER due to respiratory problems and found out he was in stage 4 lung cancer, and had 3 to 6 months left. We lost him 2 weeks later. But my last memory with him was doing what he loved best and I realized later that the same thing could have happened in our back yard. Don't let the set backs hijack your trip, because they will be the things your remember the most years later. God bless, stay safe.

My cousin bought my mom and me $25 anniversary tickets on Southwest, to come see her in Phoenix, and we flew out there in October 1996. We didn't get to go to the Grand Canyon because of her daughter's heath, but one Saturday, she did drive us up to Sedona for the day, and we did go to Tlaquepaque before we drove Oak Creek Canyon, almost to Flagstaff and back. All of which is to say, her husband said the meaning of the name was: "if you're going there, don't forget tlaqueyourpoquets!"

We do 30 day boondocking trips with a 10 ft. home built trailer. Super low tech with simple systems and still there are times when things don't go as planned-part of the adventure. Check out my cool campfire "leave no trace" set up.

So I gotta tell ya…. My husband and I are/were? tent campers. A few years ago, we got the "last site available" and it turned out to be our favorite site at our favorite State Park. Well, it's right next to the "dump station". As tent campers, we never "dumped" and we camp through Monday 🙂 So….. We watched the "mass exodus" from the park and all these campers would dump. Some didn't know what they were doing, some were the "Pros" but we never saw anybody doing push ups. LOL!! We have a small camper now. We will be the folks with the question mark above our heads. NOT! We are watching you!! Loving the videos.

One of my team served Bear Grills a whole tray of mints. He was heading to Heathrow in London, going off to do one of his shows.. his face…when my team member told me we instantly fell about laughing! I don't think he particularly relishes parts of his job!!! Understandable.. but. utterly hilarious!
