RV Life

Simple Tip! Something Every RVer Should Have.

Having a couple of items always ready to use on the RV can speed up the process of any time you have a problem or need to fix something on the RV. I use a drill or an impact driver all the time and I try to keep the battery charged up so I can use it any time the need arises. A drill can be useful to speed things up when you need to put your RV awning in a dead battery for your RV with the Electric leveling system. If I needed to get a new set of drills I would get the ones on the list below.

  • Did you mount the spare tire there as an enhancement? If so what part did you use

  • I switched to Milwaukee m12 12v tools a couple of years ago. Love the compact size and great power and battery life. I use the their packout boxes as well.

  • What awning do you have. Pretty cool that it has manual retract. They should make all electric awnings that way.

  • It's a Robertson, not a square bit. They also come in three different sizes.

  • Worse mistake I made was grabbing my drill and a only partially charged battery that went dead halfway between a 25 day trip! Cranking those stabilizers by hand in 95 degree heat taught me a lesson I hope I never repeat!

  • Finally a movie clip with tools that have actually been used instead of a clip with spotless new tools that have never been used. It makes the suggestions much more believable.

  • Hey ya know, ya could stand buffing them arms up a bit. Ain’t doing that with a drill…

  • Looks like you’ve certainly used the drill plenty! Nice job showing the tools to have/use. I can’t believe I cranked my scissor jacks down for years. The drill is so much better!

  • Yup I’ve got an impact, drill, sawsall and pole chainsaw that run on the same batteries

  • From what I can tell, the most important feature of an impact drill is the amount of annoying noise it can make a 7 am.

  • Oh yea I owned a DeWalt Cordless Drill for all of 15-16 years! An 18 v I bought as part of the 4 tools an light set in a handy carrying case from the big orange store. That all lasted me a good 15 years, but with three sets of batteries that are expensive! Especially the DeWalt. But I replaced it with a Harbor Freight Braun 24v impact driver that’s actually amazing for the $140, including two batteries and charger. Plus another extremely handy cordless compressor, the same brand, Braun, that uses the same batteries. It’s also a 24v compressor and blower/work light, that’s a digital set an forget that’s very accurate. So before every trip I set it to 35 lbs, hook up to each wheel on my truck that takes just a few more moments than using a gauge to check the psi, then at 65 on my travel trailer. Definitely worth every one of the $76 I spent on it!

  • Make sure not to use impacts on your rv’s geared devices. According to every rv technician I have spoken with, impacts cause damage from the vibration that they cause. Only use a drill that doesn’t have the additional rotational impacts. For impacts that use a socket adapter, use Dewalt brand adapters; they blew the competition away in testing for strength. 3/4” fits most stabilizer jacks. 17mm (I think) is what fits an x-chock.

  • Impact and screw gun with 1/4” 3/8” 1/2” adapters and the best socket sets you can buy
    Great video for the Newbie!
    Thumbs Up!

  • This makes me feel a lot better about the tools that I bring on every trip. I've been told I bring too many tools.

  • I stopped using my drill driver for my stabilizers because of the wrist twist issue if you do it wrong. Does the impact gun reduce the twist?

  • I went to one of our cheapo. Stores. I bought certain specific tools for different things on the rv. Don't need a super huge toolbox. Battery stuff. Slides, steps.and some electrical. . Water heater… This leaves my toolbox intact at home.
