SpotTheScotts: Newbie Mistakes Still Happen! RV LIFE {#196}
We are back on the road, leaving Soledad Canyon, CA to head to Sedona, AZ 🙂 We LOVE road trip days! However, Brian is feeling a little down on himself as some mistakes are being made. Even when you aren’t newbies, mistakes happen…. and having a new truck and new towing setup kinda makes us newbies again! Check out the damage and issues we are currently having, and help me cheer Brian up!

i know this is an old video and no hate but this is why most ppl dont set out so early with brand new rigs. u get older used vehicles and they go thru a bit of a beating thru the yeas as u get more and more experience so when u get to the point when u feel like u have experienced just about everything then u buy your brand new dream rig. its a lot of money to put out on new trucks and trailers when u have only a year or 2 experience to have them get beat up. kinda like a 16 year old getting a brand new mercedes. im a paranormal investigator and have been traveling the world investigating for about 15 years and i too have gone thru my fair share of bumps and bruises on my rigs over that time. things definitely do happen and my first van (we lived the van life for the first 5 years off and on) took a hell of a beating. im sure by now u have learned a lot and will continue to learn as the years tick on. keep truckin and be where your feet are!
I-40 from AZ to TN is awful! We also ran into several trucks from some trucking company in AZ and one of the drivers had major anger issues and tried to run us off the road, repeatedly for about 10 miles. People out there are not as nice as people in the south when it comes to letting you merge on a highway!
Things definitely happen, doesn't matter how long you have been pulling campers etc.. I would recommend that you remove the toolbox though. Its highly likely this will happen again…
Have never heard of the issue with the water tank. I have traveled with my fresh water tank not full but with enough to flush toilets. etc. and not noticed a difference.
So, haven't been able to follow for a while, but I am catching up. Wow, that was a rough couple of days. Sorry you had to go through that, but as your wife said, mistakes happen. I work at a campground in NY State, and I can tell you that even those that have been on the road for eons make similar mistakes. There was one couple with a class A last summer that, on their way out, cut a turn too tight and the whole side of the motor home scrapped a power pole. Thankfully the pole stayed in place, but awning….well, they had to replace it. The whole side was scratched down to the metal, and one window screen was ripped out. While you had some damage, it could have been a lot worse.
I'm sure by now you've gotten it fixed and are moving on. So, stuff happens, take a deep breath and let it go.
Hope to see your newer videos!
Fairly cloes to Tehachapi a pitstop we ues when we have to go to the L.A. area
I have heard that their are two types of 5th wheel owners, those who have hit the cab and those that will hit the cap. It's depressing but don't let it ruin your trip!
We all learn from mistakes. The good thing is that it wasn't anything major and no human or pet lives were harmed in the making of this memory. 🙂 Safe travels.
Glad everything is okay. Just curious what camera are you using for your videos?
Just making sure he bought his after noticing that mine were working for 10 years plus on my TDI dodge with never an issue. His failed within 1 month after installation with many cusses aimed at everyone and their mothers.😈😈
Let me rephrase the airbags bit. Friend put airbags on his truck for his 5th wheel, deflated once all the way and they needed total replacement. Rubbed holes through the bags.
Ended up with 4 useless no guarantee airbags, due to operator error. Even 10-15 psi is better than no air, in air bags.
I love my automatic slider and I go off-road very often. I always wondered why a slider wouldn't help on an 8' bed. Mine's a PullRite. ??? I have the low profile tool box also. My wheelbase is same as a full size bed since I have a Megacab.
Oh wow! So glad that everyone is OK and that nothing MAJOR happened.
Air bags never without air, that's how they fail.
A little fiberglass repair kit WallyWorld $10 bucks, if you can see the bottom of carpet maybe a shot of spray foam, before the patch, black paint and you're golden.
I've lost my coach steps on a particularly nasty mountain track, and had a 4×6 foot StorMor on a roof go airborne on DC beltway, it all just goes to make you stronger.
Stuff happens.
Too bad next time then you seem to like Az.
Oh so sorry to hear of the mistake, but it is just a thing and not someone, good attitude.
As you say, these things happen to us all. I am glad there was only minor damage and you are both unharmed. Maybe you could move the tool box? Take care xxx
You're in my state yay. I'm close to some small but interesting ruins. Also have you ever had fry bread here it's something you gotta get at least once.
If you ever come through the Houston area I would love to meet you guys. And swap Instant Pot recipes!! 🙂
Hey guys, new subs here, very cool videos!! We are new full timers but waiting for the house to sell before hitting the road but Love the RV life so far. safe travels…….
See you on the Road…….
I would cut a few inches off the tool box so it will not hit the camper. it happened once. just saying
We always travel full fresh water. We've been to places that the water isn't fit to even shower in so we never travel without it full. Perhaps it was something else? Sorry to hear about the damage to your rig guy'z.
Wow! That's strange that no other RVer has ever mentioned this about driving with a full tank. It seems that most of them do fill their tank before getting on the road. I have watched 100s+. Also, very strange that the full tank would cause so much vibration. Does your manufacturer not recommend traveling with a full tank? The full tank should not add that much weight in regards to the total weight of the rig. It really seems to me to be a defective or substandard design or unbalanced rig issue. Others more knowledgeable please chime in.
WOW. Really helpful tips in this one! I had no idea that filling the freshwater tank would cause such headaches! I'm sorry that this happened to you and am SO glad that nothing seriously awful happened to you.
First thing after the fiberglass repair I would have a good welding shop cut that toolbox down to just above the height of the fuel tank. Problem solved.
Your channel is just a copycat version of all the others. The only difference is that I find you both annoying. Also annoying is the bright yellow banner you have on EVERY video as to catch everyone's eye on searches. It just bleeds annoyance…and Josh is not meant for video. LOL
