  • Hey Nate,

Top job on the conversion. I purchased your eBook also, really good information! I am taking the parts I love from your design and merging with some ideas I love from the sprinter van diaries couple.

I had a question about the floor beams, did you screw them down or just use glue? What dimension are the beams you used?

    Thanks

  • Hi Nate!

I'm thinking about doing a van conversion, however I can only drive up to a 3.5t under my current driving licence.
I want to be able to stand up and have a shower space.
Do you cover weight issues in UK in any of your videos? Also predicting unladen weight after conversion πŸ€”

    Can you help?

    Thanks, Jade

  • I definitely need a hot tub in there! Everything else will be build around it. Thx for the video!

  • Only Β£300 on batteries, you must have very low demand πŸ˜› I'll prob spend 7-10 times that. But a diesel heater is 100 GBP iirc

  • 1:03 Shower, fridge and freezers are "of course" as far as I care.

  • My doubt would between buying a camper van from a brand (like hymer or whatever) or converting one/buying a converted one. Here in Portugal I can buy camper van from a brand for like 35 thousand euros (second hand in good shape). I can buy a mercedes sprinter (second hand in good shape) for like 20 thousand. So I really don't know if it makes sense to save that 15 thousand to convert it myself, I believe 15k would not be enough to do a great conversion so… It's kinda weird why nobody talks about this.

  • Firstly great job and great video thank you! I’m really rubbish at manual stuff, therefore I watched this to see what it takes, is it easier worth for my first van (weekend use / Europe maybe 2 weeks here and there) just to buy a converted one already?

  • I'm gonna use mine to smuggle English people out of UK because they are persecuted and bled dry. ie: new campervan rules and the onset of campervan community tax.

  • How he went from fridge to hot tube so quickly haha

  • Took your advice and hired a van for a week travelling wherever the road took us…We loved it! We're good weather campers, and loved the freedom the van gave us, combined with the easy life of having everything packed and ready to go. Thanks for the advice. If anyone's interested, the couple who rent our their van are really nice and friendly…

  • Half way through converting a van. Every word he says is spot on.

  • People please just stop adding this stupid background music in the videos for christ sake!

  • Great advice to rent a van and try van life before committing major funds and time. I fortunately rented a catamaran off Mauritius for a week, for my family (and me) to decide sailing around the world was not for us. Saved a fortune!

  • I just bought a luton to convert, any of you good people got any tips or advice?i have my bro to help me,he is a mechanic/electrics/welding etc,i am looking for shower/bathroom ideas, been all over you tube and seen some, but all and any ideas will be appreciated.

  • 300 hrs in 17 days is almost 18 hrs a day… that would leave you with 6 hours for sleeping and eating, assuming you did nothing else for 17 days….. I call bullshit. That being said, lovely van. Well worth 300 hours of work.

  • Thanks for the advice, considering this as a project to do this winter and use next year for filming…

  • when you bought your van how many miles or kilometers did the odometer have? I'm worried about buying one with too many.

  • Absolute inspiration this is what i need in my life im a ski instructor and in the process of using my talents as a photographer to make money so this is really bringing me some fresh ideas many thanks Nate

  • I saw something that was cool the other day for a shower the guy took a hose from my kitchen sink with a spray nozzle on it in linked it up to a pump up type weed sprayer obviously you have to buy a brand new weed sprayer to do this one and that's the poor boys made up shower

  • Good job, Nate. Another considerations is which van is right for you? Full size, Sprinter, minivan or "micro" van. We choose a minivan which is economical as a daily driver, and still has room for a full-size bed for camping! GoneCamper.com https://youtu.be/2bqkov9-FD8

  • could you put a wind turbine on the roof so when you drive it generates electricity? ik it seems dumb but yanno

  • 300 hours in 17 days??? Man, meth is one hell of a drug.

  • I was dreaming this since 1978, since i travel a lot around the world i was/still i am in the edge of Bankruptcy but always find a way.
Lately that dream came alive since maybe forced to live in such conditions in the US, this way of living is cost effective.
Probably the most realistic solution is to find and buy an already made one since building it from scratch while having no base would be crazy. I know im dreaming big and shooting for the stars tho.
    What will happen…time will tell

    Keep up the good work

  • Awesome van conversion. Very inspirational. Thanks for sharing your journey

  • Great advice , what was your final cost excluding the initial purchase price of van?

  • Two vans, five years of off-grid. Keep it simple, shower can be a garden sprayer. A good fridge system is essential. You need to plan it, including all the electrics, before you skin it so you can put in supports and run the wiring. A spinning roof vent is a really good idea, and if you live in England, a tiny coal stove from a Narrow boat. Build permanent ventilation.

  • Hi Nate

You look like your living the dream, I really admire what you are doing with your life. I have recently bought a new transit that I am converting also I have seen your climbing/adventure videos. I started climbing last year and love it only climbing at around 5a at the moment just waiting for "summer" in the UK to get out there. Where would you recommend around north and mid wales for sport climbing? Keep it up

    Shane

  • Yes, yes I need a hot tub.

  • Im looking to uber and live out my car. So a prius.

  • Question for you. My name is Ray and I am a Sophmore in High school in The United States. It is my dream to live in a van and explore the world, but i know that this is not possible at my age due to money and not having a license or anything like that. my Question is should i go to college than live in a van or should i live in a van right after high school. I raise this question because after College i most likely will not have much money at all and i will be packed with debt

  • 300 hours, doubt it. 300 hours in 17 days is approximately 18 hours a day (I didn't math well but you're suggesting that's all you did. otherwise good video.

  • Sorry one track thought, but what I ea b there to know is if your straight, & single? LOL. I'm a US. girl but still want to know.
