In this video we attempt to travel from Auroville in Tamil Nadu, South India, to Thanjavur. It was one hell of a road trip, and we meet some interesting people, and have some interesting situations along the way – leave your comfort zone at home #TamilNadu #Thanjavur

Our overall plan in India is to travel via rickshaw/tuk tuk from the South to North (if it’s possible?) The next leg of our journey is to travel from Trichy to Madurai, and then (if our rickshaw makes it) travel all the way to Kanyakumari. Once we make it that far south, we will start heading north through Kerala.

WE POST VIDEOS EVERY WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY 8PM AND SUNDAY 9AM (British Time

We have only just arrived in India, after a crazy time back home doing van life and living full time in our camper van for two years in the UK. But after some serious engine problems that cost us a fortune, we came to India on a mission to honour Liam’s Grandad’s legacy who sadly died earlier this year. With the inheritance money Liam got from that, we bought the tuk tuk and named it after Liam’s Grandad.

  • Very good vlog, only one request, please avoid Western music in the background, doesn't match the cool nature in South India 👍👍

  • 09:20 That building is a part of a great philosophy. The writings on the building say, " Every living being should live a life of happiness" and followed by the mantra meaning "The great blessing and The uniquely great mercy". These are quotes of Vallalar.

Vallalar, also known as Sri Ramalinga Swamigal or Vallalar Swamigal, was a 19th century Indian philosopher, saint, poet, and social reformer. He was born in 1823 in the town of Marudur near Chennai, in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Vallalar is best known for his teachings on self-realization, social equality, and service to humanity. He founded the "Samarasa Suddha Sanmarga Sathiya Sangam" (Society for the Pure Doctrine of Universal Oneness), which aimed to promote the unity of all religions and caste equality.

He is also known for his spiritual poems collectively known as "Thiru Arutpa" or "The Divine Song," which contain his teachings on self-realization and his experiences of the divine.

Vallalar passed away in 1874, but his teachings continue to inspire and influence people in India and beyond. He is revered by many as a saint and a spiritual leader.

  • Most of the Indian ancient culture is been perished for example our grandparents use to tell at their time people used to eat food sitting on the ground. Most of grand parents usually tell few things which we do not follow in this modern days or most of the Indians are interested to get western culture in india.

  • Thanjavur is a temple town, there are 21 temples in Tanjavur District, most of them were built during the Chola reign, the Chola dynasty lasted for four centuries from 9th-13th century.

  • The village of Kalaiyur is full of cooks, they are big time caterers who cook big feasts for huge gatherings like weddings, temple festivals etc, I can see that they are not running small eateries in their own village because everyone is eating at home :), The place where you guys ate is the free food offered by followers of Ramalinga Swamigal (aka) Vallalar. You can read about this saint and poet in google.

  • Learning and talking in Hindi to locals in South India is the first mistake you made.

  • Looks like the place you had lunch is associated with Vallalar (aka Ramalinga Swamigal). He is a famous Tamil Saint and poet. The little ticket you show before you exit the lunch hall shows his photo with his sayings.

  • 'When in Rome, Do as the Romans Do' you could have drunk Soup – Rasam directly out of the plate without being laughed at. So glad to see your appreciation of a totally foreign culture without any prejudice. A common pub discussion in caucasian society is "Poverty, Hunger in India" and my simple answer is, Throughout India, if you find people eating, the first thing they do is to offer food instead of hiding their plates.

Show me one place where they serve free food and bless you for eating at their place.
