A couple of comments…RV black tanks are NOT septic systems but just holding tanks. There's no need to add chemicals to 'break down' the contents nor is there really enough time between dumps to break down the sewage. #2, RV toilet paper…unless you're using wax paper, any household TP will work just fine as long as you use enough water each time you flush (use ENOUGH WATER each time you flush).
Very helpful video man. Thank You!
I would highly recommend a 6 inch turbo level. As you stated, your travel trailer, 5th wheel or RV needs to be level for the appliances to work properly. Having a digital level is good, but you should always check with a bubble level as well. The best place to check for level is in your freezer, if you have a small freezer above your fridge, or use the bottom of your fridge, if your freezer is located inside the fridge, and likewise if you have a residential fridge and freezer, use the bottom level, not a rack, of either your fridge, or freezer, to check for level. When checking for level, make sure to check front to back of fridge or freezer (this levels from side to side) and side to side of fridge or freezer (this is when the tow vehicle is removed and level from front of Travel Trailer to the back). When your fridge and freezer are level you know they will work correctly even though your travel trailer, 5th wheel or RV may be a degree off from level. Other than that, there is a Lot of great information you have covered.
I am in saskatchewan in canada. My seasonal site at the lake i am at only has 20 amp power so i have to adapt from my 50 amp down to 30 and then to 20. It really sucks. Most of the sites here have 30 amp but they still have about 20 seasonal sites that they need to upgrade yet. My generator gets lots of use on hot days
You’re gunna need a hose spreader…
what about your slides, do you need support for them. My wife and I are alittle on the heavy side?
Great video! All points are valid. I’m going to subscribe! One thing I did when I had my first travel trailer is that I used the stabilizer jacks for levelling big big mistake bent my frame. Ouch! Stabilizers are just to get them till they’re tight to stop the trailer from shaking they’re not for leveling.
Great informative video!!!
The only thing I would respectfully disagree is the need for a fresh water hose. I grew up down south and as kids all the way thru high school, we drank out of the old school green garden hoses and I’m 60 years old and still purdeee fit and healthy. And, for out RV , we simply utilize the zero gravity hose. We do use the water filter like you guys do at the connection and we have the Clear Source triple water filtration set up. Do you think we would still need a dedicated fresh water hose🤔🤔🤔
Great video! Thanks for sharing!!!
Great tip with checking power condition before unhooking..nice job..not sold on snap pads..overrated to me..thanks bud
Thank you so much for doing this video it helped me tremendously my wife and I are first time RVers.
The black chair in the background, where can I purchase one?
Good info video. The "donut" is required in some RV parks. We found several on our western journey in 2021. California, Washington and Oregon were insistent on their use.
We have a few of these. Makes RVing easier!
You guys don't have a remote that opens the black tank valve while going down the interstate like me? KIDDING! I actually do like those stabilizer buckets, gotta invest in some.
Great Video! Thanks for the info!
All I can say is you guys are so great and so honest and so informative. Thank you so much for what you do for us.
VERY INFORMATIVE tHANKS
If your trailer uses 30 amp can you use the 50 amp circuit without damage
Tom, the bird is loud because he/she is closer to your microphone than you are. You really are going to need a Rode microphone if you are going to do videos like this. Sorry buddy but volume was really low. Hope to meet you on the road some day.
I always fill my tank and use my pump, that keeps the pressure even, no worries about high low pressure and it exercises your pump
Thats alot of stuff
I am a little bit surprised that you call all of those essentials.
Lots of rvers get by perfectly well without half of those.
And septic tank specialists that I have talked with say that any toilet paper that is sold in this country is safe for septic tanks and RVs.
RV toilet paper is a rip off!
Even those automatic levelers are a huge waste of money for people like me.
When I back into a spot I put down a short ramp and start backing up and watch the level on the front of the trailer as I'm backing up. When it's level I stop and put a wooden block underneath a wheel on both sides.
When I detach the trailer from the truck I crank up the front jack and watch the level on the side of the A-frame.
Very quick, very easy and very inexpensive setup!
If I want stability I add a couple of A-frame jacks under the back end.
They add stability in all three directions. I usually don't even need them.
I don't use shore power or any of the hookups. Everything is contained on the trailer and everything runs on 12 volts. So I also leave my trailer plugged into my truck the whole time I'm parked. Unless I need to run for supplies.
I can run the truck engine a few minutes each day to top off all the batteries on the truck and the trailer.
That gives me plenty of 12 volt power for everything I need throughout the whole night for lights, water pump, TV, entertainment center, etc. also a fan to blow on me all night Long in hot weather, or to run my heater all night in cold weather.
And yes I love my automatic changeover valve on my propane tanks. It's an ingenious and extremely useful device. I just glance at the gauge every couple days to see when the red flag pops up, which is something that a lot of people don't do. That's why they run out of propane.
I never have ran out of propane in the years that I've lived in my trailer.
And it usually does switch over in the middle of the night which is when I would need it the most.
I love that automatic switch over!!! 😁❤️😃
When I see that red flag pop up I know I have about two or three days to take the empty one to get it refilled and get it put back on before the other one goes empty. Each one lasts about a week or a little more.
Extra fuses!
Great video Tom!!!
Tom.. great video.. one thing you should of included is the valterra twist on valve..it’s a must for me
Awesomeness
you nailed it ive been a camper sence i was a kid i learnd from my father my hero that to always be prepared for the f factor while camping my wife uswedto say i packed to much stuff till wewent one time and she almost froze so she is following my leednow love tyour vids keep up the great work hugs from arizona
Very helpful video. The RV lock you mention is the only style I've found that works with a 'capture plate' above the kingpin.
I have had computer experts state surge suppressors have a year two year max life cycle. RV surge suppressor how long do they last ……..
I had the joy of staying at an RV park a couple of years ago that REQUIRED the use of the sewer donuts. They said it was mandatory and if they saw you connected to their sewer without one they'd kick you out of the park with no refunds. Of course they sold them there at the office if you didn't have one. 😉
We were at a campground last year that required not only 1 donut, you had to have 2 and also a 4 inch extension on the elbow to reach the opening of the sewer, they had 4 inches of concrete around the connection. Thankfully a neighbor showed us what we needed, 4" long piece of 3" PVC pipe with a donut on each end. Great video as always!
