  • A good example is tell people to look at motor coaches. Most c class 28' to 32' are on E450 chassis's. So greater than your standard 1 ton E350 or F350 ow vehicle.

  • Our 1/2 ton GMC Sierra tows our JayFlight 212QB…with ease when there's nothing inside.

  • I’ll just say this if you cannot step up to a 3/4 ton truck.. you are not going to beat a f150 with the 3.5 and proper gearing. It’s going to give you the best amount of tow capacity in a half ton.

  • There are competent people that tow and people that tow that really shouldn't be. This video is for the latter……

  • I think towing a trailer with a weight that is 10 to 20% lower than the trucks ability to pull is good advice. It gives you a safer margin for the truck / trailer weight combination for a more enjoyable towing experience.

  • Personally I wouldn’t tow any TT with less than a 3/4 ton. Why take chances?

  • I would never buy a tow behind trailer that is over 30’ they are just kites. No matter what you pull with they are just not very safe over 30’. I think anything over 30’ should be a fifth wheel. I have seen f350s pulling 20’ ice house trailers that tip because like I said they are just not very stable when things go bad. I want the weight over the axle not 5-6’ behind them

  • My 26rk (30 foot) only weighs 4780 lbs dry I tow it with my halfton, no problem

  • I have my 2.7 ecoboost towing my rv weight at 8000-8500

  • I pull a FSX 210RT with a 2019 GMC Sierra 4×4 with an R-3 Hitch and have had no problems except my lead foot. Taking a trip this weekend and made a promise to myself that no faster than 65 MPH!

  • What gain does a 3/4 have over a 1/2 ton truck ? Especially if length of trucks are the same?

  • I think he's definitely mostly right, but a tiny bit overly conservative imo.
I've pulled campers for 10 years, all over the country and up to alaska with a 1/2 ton as well as a 3/4 ton.
There's been times when I pulled too much with a 1/2 ton….it's not enjoyable in any way.
Sure a 3/4 ton makes a big difference especially pulling mountain passes…larger radiator, bigger breaks, leaf springs instead of coils.
Right now I'm pulling a 5500 pounder with a 1/2 ton and just got back from a 3000 mile pull and it went very well.

  • Hey! In purpose of towing trailer why is everybody talking only about pickup trucks and not about on frame SUV's like Land cruiser or Tahoe? Is it somehow inconvenient or forbidden?

  • Used to work with some folks who went on vacation pulling a trailer and the front wheels came off the road. They hired someone to tow it for them. I would prefer a trailer that is less than the tow capacity of my vehicle. I did tow a 30 ft. job shack with a 1970 Datsun pickup for a short distance with great temerity.

  • Get all kinds of these nutless wonders warning you about towing with a 1/2 ton. I own a 2020 1/2 ton with a towing capacity of 13.5 and a payload capacity of about 1700. I'm pulling a 40' Mallard with 3 slides weighing 8800 pounds with a 780 tongue weight. She tracks along great at 70 mph regardless of semis and the 20 mph winds I've encountered so far. If there are winds in excess of 30 I wont be driving it it regardless of the truck I own. Bottom line – know your truck, know your trailer, know your abilities. Seek advice from others but don't necessarily take their word as gospel. Yes, even me. You'll figure it out.

  • You also need to look at the GCVW of the tow vehicle. It may limit you to less than the 6000lbs.

  • My half ton is rated at 11,500 and I want to tow a jayco jay flight swift 264 bh the gvwr is at around 6500 lbs I should be eight shouldn’t I?

  • I saw someone pulling a similarly sized trailer with a Honda Pilot or passport down the highway recently. I don’t know who I should blame…the driver or whoever sold it to them telling them it was okay.

  • You make a good point, however it is all opinion and no facts.

  • I have that same Silverado trail boss. Was thinking of getting a 21' geo pro at 4400 pounds gvwr so I think that will work just fine. Thanks for the info.
