Many bad things can happen while towing a trailer but seized wheel bearings should be avoided at all costs! Thankfully, it doesn’t cost much to ensure the wheel bearings on your travel trailer or fifth wheel are properly lubricated.
Manufacturers recommend to repack the grease on trailer wheel bearings every 10,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first. RV repair shops charge roughly $100 per axle, however this is an easy project that can be done at home if you are handy and have the required tools.
Many newer travel trailers and fifth wheels come equipped with EZ lube axles which make the wheel bearing grease repack procedure incredibly easy. In this video I show step-by-step procedures on how to repack wheel bearing grease for both standard axles and EZ lube axles.

Thank you for supporting the channel ♥ If we've done our jobs we've inspired someone to chase their dreams!
I rather take everything out and inspect/replace and repact the bearings, so I know everything is good.
Awesome video, thanks!
You did a good job. One thing I was taught though is to wipe off a zerk before you attach the grease gun so as not to contaminate the grease with dirt. I was also taught to tighten the spindle nut until the drum stops turning and then back it off 1/8 to 1/4 do that there's little to no drag. This ensures the bearings seated properly. I've heard with ez lube you should hand pack every other year. I think it really depends on how much the trailer is used.
Great job!! Appreciate you going over everything and skipping nothing!!
I'm surprised you can't pop that center cap off of that hub so you don't have to remove the wheel. Thanks for the video.
How often do you recommend repacking the wheel bearings? We bought a travel trailer last spring and have put about 3,500 miles on it so far.
Great video David! It was really helpful!
In the ezy set up, I have a sneaky suspicion the old grease is still doing it's job even though it has changed color.
Really good video on how to repack the wheel bearings! One thing I'd like to ask…is that wheel bearing seal removal tool worth buying? I've seen people struggle with them on other videos and end up using the claw of a claw hammer to remove the seal. Seemed like it was easier to do it that way. What's your take on buying one? I know they aren't expensive but that's one more thing I really don't want to buy unless I need it to do the job. Again, awesome video!! Keep 'em coming!
That Window lube spray would be good on semi trucks back window on the sleeper too kinda the same style as the one he sprayed
Great vid. That grease looked delicious. I may never need to eat Tide pods again. Happy that non-impact socket didn't explode on you because on everything else, I learned a lot. Nice work.
Nice job god bless
Great video. Just doing my bearings for the first time. Did not realize that you could pump thru the E-Z lube spindle without blowing out the rear seal. Thanks
Thanks for telling people to jack the Frame and Not the Axle. I see this mistake constantly. Especially at Tire Shops!
Good job! Thanks! Spoke loudly and directed camera correctly. A+
It looked to me like your wheel center caps have a removable cap. But, of course you know your trailer. Also, for those with manual adjustable brakes, this is a good time to adjust the brakes. Auto adjusting should adjust each time you backup and apply your brakes. Its good to backup and deliberately brake to keep those of the automatic type adjusted.
That "Easy Grease" system looked like about 10x the work and takes much longer… is it really that much "easier"?
You are packing the bearing from the wrong side, you always pack from the larger outside of all bearings, on palm of hand like you show forcing grease til it comes out smaller inside it is much more efficient, And USE More GREASE, My Dad taught me this 46 yrs ago At 16 yrs old on my 66 Fairlane 500, Always done this way and always use good TIMKEN Bearings never CHEAP Chinese ones , You will be stuck on side of road, and you Saved no money, Never had it happen to me, but hear it from many others ,,Ends up costing you a tow job and shop work at $80-110 HR, do it yourself with Quality Timken parts, Also that's not how Dexter says to set the Bearing preload, please see the DEXTER axles youtube how to set load Correctly, its the most important part of Longevity of a bearing and no damage, , Per Dexter: Torque to 50 Ft/Lbs Back off hand snug til just barley loose the set Cotter key or other keeper device. .. i want to have FUN FUN FUN , not broke down headaches or worse!. just my 2 cents
good video just make your job alot easier by loading the bearing from the large side.
this man knows the proper way of checking ,cleanig, repacking bearings the right way and add additional grease inside the hubs. for the people that watch/listen to dexter axle talk or videos disregaurd all that garbage and make your family safe when going on vacation. enjoy
Great video! Straight to the point.
RV newbie here! Just bought our first used travel trailer and I am doing research trying to make a list of all the maintenance I need to do. I apologize if you mentioned this in the video and I missed it or if you answered in a previous comment, but, in a video that I watched about changing tires, they said to hook your trailer up to your tow vehicle to help support the weight before jacking it up. Is this something that you do either when changing tires or working on brakes/bearings? Thanks!
Your video is so helpful, after watching I went out to look at our bearings on our 2008 Holiday Rambler that we recently purchased and I was so happy to see that we have the Dexstar bearings.
Awesome video! Thanks!
Thank you David! Well done, enjoying & learning much…first time with a camper.
Using the easy lube system is risky if you have a bad seal as then you'll have grease all over your brakes.
Great video. You always do an awesome job explaining how to accomplish these tasks. It doesn’t look that hard to do. Messy and more time consuming than anything.
Does the tire still need to be rotated with the ez grease fill?
Dust covers or dust caps don't need to be greased, they are just for dust.
