Ultimate RV Off-Grid Solar System Build – 2760 Watts of Solar ☀️ 11Kwh Battery, on a 32' Fifth wheel

We have built our Ultimate RV Off-Grid Solar System with the latest tech in RV solar panels!
⚡️ Thanks to Battle Born Batteries for partnering with us on this build ⚡️
Check out their new Solar Panel Bundles Here! – https://battlebornbatteries.com/product-category/battle-born-solar/?afmc=1x

We are taking a look at our ultimate RV solar system installation on our 32 foot RV. RV solar systems are not new to us as this is the second system we have built on this rig, but this time we are maxing the tech out with a completely new rv solar panel installation using high efficiency stick down solar panels. We also built a completely new battery bank with Battle Born Batteries and upgraded electronics using a larger Victron inverter multiple MPPT solar charge controllers.

Specs on this system:
2760 Watts installed capacity of RV Solar Panels
8 Battle Born batteries for 11.2Kwh storage capacity @24Volts
3 x 100/50 MPPT charge controllers
5Kva Victron inverter

  • i could do without all the fluff and just show the solar setup and cost

  • Is this all bullshit now?

  • Only someone with way too much money or someone getting free kit would put solar panels on the front of their rig… It's cool, but good god they are too expensive. How much would your system cost if you paid for it?

  • Big Thank-you to the Morton’s!💕 Loved this video; well demonstrated (great team work) and orated.
Even though you are an electrical Engineer, you managed to put into laymen’s terms very well. As a result I could get a much better grasp on solar energy systems for my RV. Well done!👏

  • wonderful video, but seriously, take your mask off when you are all alone washing the solar panels, really?

  • Would you please provide an update on how the install performed? And the ones on the front of the RV? It is now 14 months later in December of 2021.

  • I would think that the front of the RV would get a lot of dirt, and even worse pebbles etc shot up from your rear wheels which would damage the panels. How about keeping them to set out farther away when you are in the shade?

  • Have loved y’all’s videos for a long time.
Having gone the Tesla route any suggestions. I will never be able to to afford battle born lithium with the capacity I’m looking to have. So the model s battery is what I have to go with. .charge controller recommendation?

  • Subbed…so you cat get a RIVIAN to pull the rig, that recharges your Life…if you change locations infrequently …
i went all-solar in 1998..wasn't cheap then, yet very liberating !

  • NICE WORK.. DO YOU STILL CARRY A GENERATOR?

  • great video. impressive setup! i am going to share this every time someone suggests that they can just slap a solar panel on their roof and run an air conditioner. my van has 420 watts of flexible panels in a DC only system with a single 100 ah battery in a system i designed myself. i ended up needing the help of electrical engineers to calculate the fuse sizes and wire gauges. it runs like a champ for my simple needs: lights, fans, and a small fridge.

  • I see a lot of people using 4/0 wires for RV setups. 4/0 wire is good for 300 amps of current. It seems to be overkill, or am i missing something? The solar panels at 2760 Watts at 52V is 53 amps of current.

  • Great system. We used flat panels on our last rig. Only downfall was winter. Just not enough solar to support our needs. Ended up adding 200 more watts of tilted panels to compensate. I noted in your video you had a few portable panels by the road. We are currently installing another solar arrangement on our 3rd rig. (Getting expensive-lol) and have most of the components on order or installed. However still debating the solar panels. Leaning towards ones that tilt.

  • Really would like to talk with you. Have 32 foot rv jayflight and stays at my ranch. Need to get solar added as primary electric.

  • Looks like you put $20k of components in your RV. Now all you need is a Cybertruck to tow it. You could charge on Level one but with a Cybertruck it would take days to charge…but you could always supercharge or add more panels…you do have a 5k inverter….Nice…Solar awnings?

  • Awesome video. I would love to know how much was the cost of your system, and if you would be willing to do the exact same installation my 5th wheel. I am in frankenmuth michigan.

  • With such a huge battery bank are you able to keep it at 100% after a few cloudy days go by, without any assistance from shore or generator.

  • Could this system be adapted to a manufactured home. Us there a ball park cost?

  • I can't find them panels anywhere. Where can I buy them at?

  • Are you worried about the uneven wire lengths on the parallel banks causing batteries closer to the sinks to wear out faster?

  • Ya three charge controllers because that was cheaper than one.

  • It is so refreshing to watch a video about solar where the presenter actually understands what he’s talking about. I usually just shake my head and complain to my wife about the tens of thousands of people who are learning incorrect information. Thanks for putting this on, although my wife now wants a 2KW solar setup instead of the 600W one I was planning on.

  • How did the Tesla batteries perform for the 2 years?

  • I love the setup! I just purchased an Alpha Wolf 26RL-L and pick it up in two weeks. I want to order all the components from your build. Will Battle Born help to let me know how much solar I can fit on the roof based on the specs or is that something I need to measure myself. Also, is there a way to just order the flexible panels themselves as your link just brings me to package’s and I already have 800 ah worth of lithium batteries. Loving your channel!

  • The system looks awesome. I cannot wait to see it down the road.

Did you directly attach the solar panels to your RV or did you put them on something that provides some air flow or insulates them from the roof of your RV to reduce thermal transfer?

  • Love to know more about the panels. Cant seam to find them on the BB site. Just how new are they?

  • I'm totally getting impatient waiting for your next video to come out.. so figured I'd better ask some questions!

My future plan for the RV solar/wind set up is to run my AC's (2) with soft starts and run the 12V side of my RV (fridge and 12v outlets) off the batteries. The question I have is.. if I want to run it this way, do you still need such a large inverter? And is this as simple as running the batteries to the 12V side of the power panel with an off shoot to the breaker for the AC's? Am I making more of a mess than I would need to just run everything and be energy conscious? Thanks.. and keep up the great video's.. you got me hooked with Go North.. now I'm onto solar for the trip in a few years.. lol

  • Nice install!!! I will be looking forward to see your power output during the few weeks when the days are shortest this coming winter. It will also be interesting to know how well the panels hold up over time.
Since your an engineer, maybe you can build some kind of protector shield that you can snap on during travel days, to help keep the bugs off and keep the panel from hazing, caused by abrasive road debris, like is often seen on plastic headlights of modern day vehicles.

Will you be selling the old panels that you removed? If yes, how much do you want for them?

  • Can you give us some information regarding heat dissipation of the panels? Heat damage seems to be a problem with flexible panels.

Great video! Waiting fir your next one!

  • Id love to get those solar panels but I cant seem to find them anywhere on the website.

  • Hey Tom n Caitlin would you buy a Diesel Ford Super Duty truck ? Or buy you truck when you go up north

  • As expected from the Mortons, well thought out project with superb video production values. Thanks!

  • To instal, is an electric tion's licence required?
