  • I love camping and sleeping on the ground in a tent. My wife loves sleeping in a comfortable bed. The compromise is the RV. Ill do whatever it takes to show my kids the joys of camping. TYVM for the content so I can make an informed decision on buying an RV.

  • Full time RVers 🎉 for a year now! We have a six month old and a two year old! We love our RV more than the house we sold 😂 thanks for the video!!

  • So my husband and I plan on living in an RV while he works as a travelling as lab tech. Well probably be in each area for about 3 months at a time. What kind of group do we fit in??

  • Currently, I'm not an RV'r, but I dream to be RVing fulltime. I'm comforted in knowing that in an infinite multiverse, there are a potential infinite number of me adventuring fulltime in an Earth Roamer HD. 👍🤣

  • We are just starting out as Casual campers, getting close to retirement. The current target is one weekend per month.

  • We are newbie rv'ers…I just turned 70 & he is 77! We love camping and enjoy travelling!

  • RVs and boats (just another RV on water) are way oversold and way underused by the majority of buyers. After two pop-ups, three 5th wheels, and one motor home, 4 canoes, one fiberglass dinghy, 3 john boats, one bass boat, and one pontoon boat, I keep telling myself, the next purchase will get used more than the last one. Yeah right. At least I took my own advice and have never bought one brand new or even used from a dealer. Let someone else get ripped off and educated by ripoff dealers. And I have never let a dealer touch ANY of my purchases. Now, automobiles have been a slightly different story, but rarely will a dealer ever see my car in their shop.

  • Very soon here in Florida, you will have to book a year ahead to camp. Too many rvers and not enuff parks.
    Best advice, don’t buy one.

  • Question? I didn't hear you say what the % of RVers were for two of the seven categories. Casual and Escapist. The other 5 only add up to 44.5%. ?? Some of their % for personality types added up to 156% . Probably a typo their part. Thanks for posting this video. Safe travels.

  • Not being picky guys – -"20,000 low cost RV" 1,000 dollars a day. I use to budget that on road trips in the 80's staying in hotels and motels. I had a vehicle that I purchased because of all the road trips that I didn't really need the rest of the year. Sure I could use it the rest of the year but it got low use the rest of the year. What's interesting? It was pushing 20,000 then. When the wife and I were managing a campground and full time, we were in a class A. We had to turn many folks away in the summer because we were full. 9 months of the year? "Hey come on in!" The true fact is there isn't enough campgrounds in high season for everyone. The other thing? You can find some very nice used because of those stats. The biggest "regret" we heard was "Never buy a new RV, wish we had rented or tried a used first to see what we did and didn't like." I won't forget the couple that had just purchased a new class A and used it twice with a sign in it, For Sale. When we spoke with them their comment was "we hate it, there are some many things we don't like with this one." About a year later they came back, driving a used class A about 5 feet shorter but loved the layout. "Now we know better what we truly want" was their comment. Think about that older used or rental a lot before you dive in.

  • Im buying a 5th wheel and getting it this week.
I paid for a lot for the season which is 6 months.
4 weekends a month, that puts me in the 20 days a year. I would do more but the camp ground is open only 6 months.
My 5th wheel is also an american 4 season. That wont be liveable in -30c winters up here in canada.
Nonetheless im super happy and using this season has a learning season and then during winter I'll see what i want to do. Go bigger, go smaller or pack out and go back to tents. Or even maybe renting an rv weekends but thats not fun.

  • Very interesting video and information! I am kind of wondering what sort of targeted advertising I will start getting now!

We are probably officially "Escapists". Married, full time jobs, 2 pre-teen/teen kids, 3 dogs, currently in a 32 ft travel trailer and in the process of upgrading to a 5th wheel. I've done camper camping since I was a kid and my husband has always "rough-it" camped. I had no intention of getting a camper for our family because I remember how much work it was for my parents prepping for our camping trips (5 kids plus friends meant a LOT of food and supplies being loaded up!). Then our friends said they were selling their double bunk travel trailer almost 4 years ago. We bought it on a whim at the end of the season, did a couple driveway campouts with the family before winterizing and did a few local weekend trips the following summer and then 2 weeks at the end of the summer so we could be close to my daughter while she served in the Governors Mackinac Island Honor Scout program. My friend gave us the best advice that allowed her to enjoy camping so much more without all the work up front – she left her camper PACKED and plugged in all summer long. All she had to do was get milk, eggs, and meat and they were ready to go!

We had the same camping plans for summer 2020 as we did for summer 2019 then COVID hit…and we ended up parking it at a local campground for 2 months of the summer and working from the camper so the kids could enjoy something fun since everything else was cancelled for them last summer. When we left the campground at the beginning of Sept 2020, we booked for the first 2 months of summer 2021 "just in case" and were hoping to spend 2 weeks in August in Mackinaw again. When we realized our "just in case" was going to be another summer of working from home/camper, we decided to upgrade to a 5th wheel. We will still take a couple weeks to travel to Northern MI and Mackinaw in August but my daughter's Honor Guard program has already been cancelled so instead of serving on the Island, she will be our person tour guide again. I am hoping that pulling the 5th wheel vs the travel trailer will make my husband feel more comfortable and that maybe we will be able to make it over the Mackinaw Bridge to the U.P. with the camper next summer!!

When you mention the cost of the camper per trip, that is something that me and my friends have always figured that out. I thought our friends were crazy for spending $12K on their travel trailer and only using it 2 or 3 weekends a summer. We spent $6K on our first one and that more than paid for itself last summer alone! I look at the cost of camping vs the cost of traveling and staying in a hotel or condo/resort. I have food allergies so trips longer than a couple days means that I have to be able to prepare food for myself. For a hotel stay, that means a suite with a kitchen and those run ~$250/night and up. Basically living in & working from our travel trailer last summer, we ended up taking a second refrigerator from home and a couple Yeti coolers for beverages outside because the travel trailer fridge was too small. We also found out that we needed more seating in the "living space" inside (for watching family movies on rainy nights or when we just wanted to relax inside). We made it work for last summer but when we started looking at layouts of the new 5th wheels, if there wasn't enough room for 4 people to lounge, then that layout was out! There is definitely a difference between long weekend camping and living in an RV by the week or month!

  • Great video. While there is a lot of expansion of RV Parks happening now I expect the main affect of adding 9 million RVers will be to push people farther north in the winter and farther south in in the summer. And, of course, raise the in season prices for everyone.

Did I see it wrong or did almost every category of camper have more women than men? May be good to be a single man on the road. 🙂

  • Married retired couple. Fulltime snowbirds. Love adventure. 18 months now.✌️❤️

  • I'm 69 and widowed for 2 and half yrs. When I was 20 yrs old single with a dog i bought an old military power wagon and made a stagecoach camper on it. Went to a commune and hooked with some ladies making tips on foot treadle machines. For $250 built one and bought some old lodge pole pine poles for $3 apiece. Had less than $650 total invested and took off for 3+ yrs without a mailbox. Box. Best time of my life. So simple no phone. Admit radio and a guitar. Put a bike lodge piles and surfboard on the roof and saw 17 states. Camped in my 14 ft tipi for days at a time even rented spots for 30 days from cool people. Visited a dozen communes. Traveled picked fruit did some commercial deck hand fishing and labor work for support. Got married at 38 had 4 kids in 5 years stayed with same girl 30 years til she passed just recently. Made enough to own a house no banks. Worth $150 k and want to do it again. Sell the house kids are grown great relationships with them. Screw rvs and campers. To much maitinance and cost. Ty you down to much for ez comfort which isn't so ez. Not cost effective. Got a 6cy 2002 blazer runs great. No more surfing or women. Don't drink ect. You don't get time back so move forward. Started in s. Calif now in S. Florida. Ready to go from coast to coast again an live simple. No hotels or property taxes sounds great. Ss check of $1200 mo. And alittle savings. Sell the house and keep it simple. Should last 20 years but my body won't. Women have different needs so tips sound good but it's the real raw life. I don't go near big city's drive safe and slow and love the real wilderness. Yes there's âfew older ladies that could handle it especially American aboriginies females. Got to have a balanced spirit and soul to be anyone's soulmate. Rare at any age both male or female. Dogs are radar and you don't need a gun. Get you in more trouble than you know. Good bow and arrow and practice you can protect yourself pretty good. You guys give some good life experiences with rvs yet they're overkill for me. If you ended up alone you better have a big bankroll or tools and mechanical experience. A 100 ways to make electricity for cheap when you need it. Rvs depreciate faster than new kia's. Figure your never lonely with a good australian shepherd good book a good friend like the one upstairs some good music the stars and the road. Can put up and take down a tipi in 1 hour or less. Yeah you miss family my test has been going on for a couple years now and I'm ok 99 percent of the time. I figure help those you see need it and he'll help you. Be a nice person live and let live and mean it. Always give thanks and learn at least 1 good thing a day and pass 1 on. Keep the faith and keep it simple. Rving isn't so simple after you've done it for awhile. Seen folks in tree houses school buses trailers 5th wheels and the best was tips. If it's a 14 ft that means it 14ft tall inside and a 14 ft radius inside. You can sleep 6 people in there. Take a tape measure and check out 14 ft. They don't make 14 ft tall rvs or 14 ft wide rns that fold down to the size of 2 fat blankets. Next time you get a chance step in a tipi and you'll see the old way was the best and a good dog could help you move it. Lol sorry dont have the xtra $ to subscribe to everybody. Lol and be safe and healthy. You two look like beautiful people.from the 1969 hs graduate

  • We use our camper as a way to go visit our kids in different parts of the country and hopefully Canada. This way we can get up when we want and go to bed when we want and not disturb them. We can explore different parts of the country on the way and take our time. When we are home I like to work on the camper to better fit our life style and put our personal stamp on the camper. I like the camper because we don't have rush to get any where.

  • Full timers. Bought our 5th wheel in October and been living in it ever since!

  • Please get your hair out of your eye!

  • Well, finally got to this episode 10 days after posting…tried to listen as I was preparing for the days flights…not close enough 🤔🤯🤣‼️ So now I’m going to have to rewatch tonight after finishing the day🤦🏻‍♂️. But, do want to say…I’m 2 years from mandatory retirement…we’ve got a VERY comfortable (32’) couples travel trailer…NO thoughts of “trading up”…and our plans are to keep our house and do “extended” trips of say up to a month at a time. Traveling at OUR leisure to see as much of this beautiful nation as possible (Given ALL the variables the future & government will bring!) while we can. Not full timing…not adventuring (at our age⁉️) but traveling. So, like I said, I gotta rewatch cuz I couldn’t figure out where we fit in this survey🤣🤣🤣. Happy camping & hope to meet & get to know many of y’all out there🏕🛶

  • What type of RV would you guys reccomend for a single woman with a dog maybe 2? Choices are:
    1. Class C
    2. 5th wheel
    3. Travel trailer.
    I do have a truck 1/2 ton Dodge hemi 4 x 4. It's a 2004 but runs great..
Thank you for your insight and experience.
    Sincerely,
    Helen

  • My wife and I have been full timing for adventure (mtn biking and hiking) retired and I don’t like to say I’m on a permanent vacation I say I’m doing everything I want to do. I love seeing something or hearing about something and having the ability to plan it and do it. Freedom…

  • Full time, no kids with us in a camper for the past 27 months. We have an address, but like to escape as often as possible. Winters are a bit claustrophobic we have decided, but an escape to a hotel about 20 days a year, seems to help the size limitations.

  • wow this was a great deep dive that spoke to me. i love watching your videos 🙂 thanks for pointing out that im still tied to my job and if i go for 20 days i might pay 10-20K for those 20 days!!! wow !!

  • At 20 days a year my 5th wheel costs $4000 a day just to purchase. As you mentioned there are MORE costs. Renting would remove maintenance costs as well. My membership for camping spots would be an additional $150 a day as well.

  • Single woman, early 70's , retired, full time ,and living in a Class C , that I love!!! The gypsy in me is alive and well ☺🚐❤🐾!

  • I watched videos for MONTHS and researched and learned so much from you both! We just bought a used travel trailer -2017- and my hubby finally got into it too. We are going to be a mixture of the categories but definitely I will be the one using it year round for hiking, kayaking, and snowshoeing! I am super excited!! Thanks for all your amazing info to help me be an informed buyer. 😄
Any tips on when to book Yellowstone? So hard to get in!

  • I’m in my mid 50’s, single and new to full time RV living. Loving it!

  • As Bill Koch mentioned below we were in the vicarious group, but have moved to the avid group as of the past fall.

  • Love the insight from you guys! I'm a new RVer as of January, early 40s, and like to go out every 2-3 weeks for a fun weekend. I make a very good living, and can work from the road. I hope to use this to turn our family weekend trips into week-long trips. I guess at the moment I'm an avid camper?

  • Never owned, never used an RV. So this is great information for me. We are interested but we are more likely to never buy one but only rent. We have more of the world we want to see outside of US & Canada. Would love to know what RVing is like in Europe. Tax deductible trip for you guys? Field trip for Sage!

  • I guess our anti social answers to our salesperson made the process easier for us . When we left cramping world we were mad and still mad when we pulled into the dealership that sold us our Micro Minnie .

  • 5th year living the dream, second class C, married 57 years old, we average 70 days a year we are avid RVers and love it

  • I custom built my RV to tow with since I sell firewood processors. This allows me to deliver to my customers and teach them how to operate their new machine. Plus I hate motels !! Dirty , nasty , motels… I did a nice conversion on a 2014 Chevy express 3500 box truck. It turned out awesome !! I will probably do another thats a diesel then sell this one. Unloaded I am getting 14.5 MPG with a properly tuned 6.0 gasser. Best of all the wheelbase and total length allows me to park anywhere and even stealth camp wherever.

  • I've been all of the above LOL (except full time) for over 42 years . . all different RVs for all different amounts of time. I think I came out of the womb in a travel trailer LOL !

I love it 🙂 Right now I'm a widow over 55 in a Class C and spend about 150 days at least away from my home. Just got back from a little over a month long trip to Savannah, GA, Charleston SC and Myrtle Beach and planning my next adventure already !!

  • We are casual RVer's. We are mid 50's, empty nesters, work full time and RV about 15 days per year.

  • Where do we fit…well, we're now 'retired' we have a Class A diesel pusher, and spend several months (lately) in a single Az resort during the winter…hoping, to join those travelling/touring the U.S.A. as many other Canadians are! Some GREAT information here, with regard to the cost of RVing! Especially for those that have young families, they want their kids to have the outdoor experience 'they' had as kids, yet of course we all want MORE for our kids than we had, so the parents go out and spend all this money on an RV for that added experience, and then find themselves penny pinching all year, as that RV they bought for this added experience, not has them pinned down, with storage fees, and as shown here, figure out how many days you 'actually' camped, and divide that by the payment you have on your RV, the storage fees and any maintenance fees and additions you've add to the RV! Oh, and how about all those toys you bought, to make the 'adventure' even more adventuresome! I've been there, and had a preowned pickup, and preowned 26' travel trailer, which all worked out, but all that time the trailer was parked, it was depreciating….and for us we where at least fortunate enough to have driveway space for it..so no storage, but seeing it out there it was costing us nonetheless. Anyway….great insight as to whether you're better off to just 'rent' a unit in the location you want to go to, which in the end may very well be the answer! Don't forget to add 'interest' on that RV payment too! 🙂
