Peak Design’s new platform makes it simpler to buy and sell used gear

Peak Design is best known for camera bags. But now they’ve launched something completely new: Peak Design Marketplace. If you don’t want to buy a brand new bag or other Peak Design gadgets, Peak Design Marketplace is the place where you can get a used one. It’s made to simplify gear exchange, so let’s check out what you can expect.

Peak Design Marketplace is a peer-to-peer platform for buying and selling used Peak Design gear. It’s mainly camera bags, but you’ll be able to find other products from the company and sell those that you don’t need anymore. The point of this platform is to connect buyers with sellers directly. In other words, Peak Design removes the middleman from the transaction. This makes the whole experience more convenient, but also more environment-friendly.

“Traditional used gear platforms often rely on intermediaries to facilitate transactions and to inspect, certify, repackage and reship gear,” Peak Design notes. “This method creates inefficiencies and waste, leading to a subpar experience for buyers, sellers, and the planet.” In addition, when buying and selling used gear, it gets a new life and it’s definitely a greener option than buying new.

The process takes three steps and lets you post, ship,and collect payment from the Marketplace wherever in the world you are. Once a product has been sold, Peak Design emails the seller a pre-paid label for shipping. Upon receipt from the buyer, sellers can choose either cash payment or additional reimbursement via credit to PeakDesign.com.

It’s worth noting that buyers are protected by Peak Design’s lifetime product guarantee no matter how many times a product has been exchanged. Both transactional parties also have access to Peak Design’s customer support, so it’s not only reserved for those who buy new gear from the company.

The beta version of Peak Design Marketplace has been launched and you can already find some stuff over there. And of course, you can list your own Peak Design gear for sale. The company hopes that other brands will adopt this used gear platform alternative. I personally believe that it would be a handy solution, and I think it would be one of the safest options, too.
