Specs released for Aputure’s new 100D/X and 200D/X LED lights – shipping starts next week
Yup, the pre-order’s over. Aputure’s new Amaran 100D, 100X, 200D and 200X LED lights are now available to just go and buy. And they’ve released the complete and final specs for all four of the units now, too. Also, the first reviews of the new lights are out, and we’ve included one below.
There are essentially two different powers (100W and 200W) available in two different colour varieties. The “D” flavour lights, available in both powers, are daylight balanced, whereas the “X” versions (also available in both powers) is a bicolour, allowing you to switch between tungsten and daylight at will.
The Amaran 100 & 200 models are aimed at YouTubers and content creators working in relatively small spaces. They’re lightweight compact lights, offering a decent amount of power, but without a lot of the bells and whistles of their much more expensive Lightstorm siblings like the C120D and C300D. But they do come with a Bowens mount, allowing you to use your favourite modifiers that you might already use for stills or with your existing video lights.
As you can see from the specs, all four lights are essentially identical except in their power output (the 100W output lights consume 130W and the 200W output lights consume 250W) and white balance specification. Two lights are daylight only, and two are bicolour, letting you switch from tungsten to daylight and anywhere in between.

Even in form, the four lights look pretty much identical – as illustrated in the images above of the 100D and below of the 200X – save for the model number printed on the side, and an extra dial to adjust the white balance on the 100X and 200X models.
As with just about all of Aputure’s recent lights (and their older ones, thanks to the Sidus Link Bridge) the four new lights are compatible with Aputure’s Sidus Link control system, letting you adjust them from an app on your smartphone or tablet, with a range of up to 80 metres over Bluetooth.
It’s an interesting set of lights that are going to cause some upset in this sector of the market, competing with Godox’s LEDs, particularly the new Godox ML60 (review coming soon) and a number of other similarly priced lights. I can see these becoming quite popular.
The four lights are all available to order now (although not everywhere has them in stock yet).
