The latest Nikon Z6 and Z7 firmware will mess up your AF fine-tuning
New firmware updates have been released for Nikon Z5, Z6, and Z7 mirrorless cameras. However, you may want to wait with the update if you shoot the Z6 or Z7. Nikon has issued a warning reading that the 3.10 and 3.11 firmware versions will mess up your autofocus fine-tune.
âAn issue has been identified in firmware versions 3.10 and 3.11 in which fine-tuning values selected for AF fine-tune > Saved value are not correctly applied when pictures are taken,â Nikon writes and apologizes. In other words, if you use AF fine-tune settings in-camera to calibrate your lens, it wonât work properly and your photos will be out of focus. Nikon says that fix is on the way and youâll be able to get it via the Download Center once itâs available. However, thereâs no word on when itâs going to happen.
If you havenât updated the firmware, perhaps youâll want to wait a while. You can follow further notices from Nikon here for the Z6 and here for the Z7. In case you have already updated the firmware to version 3.11, you may want to use manual focus with those lenses that require AF fine-tuning until the problem is solved.
It looks like the Z5 hasnât been affected by this issue in the firmware version 1.01, or it has already been fixed. So, if you use this camera, looks like youâre good to go.
