Video – Affinity Photo Tutorial – Double Take

IF YOU’RE A PROFESSIONAL photographer then it’s highly likely that you have one, if not several, hard drives gathering dust somewhere around your office. These will inevitably hold hundreds, maybe thousands, of images that you’ve taken over the years. If you have some spare time on your hands – as many of us probably do have these days – this stock resource can come in very handy for creating a double exposure image.

Doubtless there are many who can remember this technique from the days of film and most modern cameras will offer photographers the ability to shoot multiple exposures in-camera by overlaying the files. However, by instead creating this effect at the post-processing stage you afford yourself far more control over the finished result, and can re-work images and try out fresh combinations until you’re completely happy with the way things look. This is a great way to breathe new life into your portraits and Affinity Photo has all the tools you need on board. Although it
may appear a little complicated, it’s actually just a case of making a selection, copying and pasting a secondary image to merge with your portrait and then adding Masks so that you can control the flow of the pixels. All-in-all, if you follow our guide, you should be able to create your own double exposure in no more than ten minutes.
