Vivo teams up with Zeiss for upcoming X60 Pro+ smartphone cameras

Well, it looks like Huawei’s not the only one with high photographic sights as smartphone manufacturer Vivo has also announced a partnership with Zeiss for camera development in their new X60 series. There will be three models in the X60 series – the regular X60, the X60 Pro and the X60 Pro+.

The first two smartphones have already made their public debut, but the third has not. Allegedly leaked renders found online, however, suggest that the X60 Pro+ may feature a quad-camera unit, bearing that famous Zeiss logo.

Vivo and Zeiss did actually make the announcement a month ago that they’d partnered up with each other to co-engineer an imaging system for their premium smartphones, with a plan to start implementing it with the upcoming X60 series. Unlike Huawei’s deal with Zeiss, though, which is essentially Huawei designing the stuff and sending it over to Zeiss to get their approval, Vivo & Zeiss say they have plans to establish a joint R&D programme – the Vivo Zeiss Imaging Lab.

What’s new now, though, is that renders are floating around the web showing what the upcoming X60 Pro+ might look like. Sporting that Zeiss logo with what claims to be a 1/1.3″ sensor in that quad-sensor camera module.

With the issues that Huawei’s been having lately, along with their split from Google and the Play Store, it’s nice to see another manufacturer able to step up with Zeiss cameras. And having seen the quality of the already-impressive X51 5G (AKA, the X50 Pro) camera first hand (the one with that crazy gimbal – review coming as soon as we’re allowed out of our houses in Scotland again), I’m expecting great things to come from this partnership.

I suspect that DxOMark will have another serious contender for their top 10 lists coming soon!
