Watch: Shelves full of camera gear collapse like a house of cards

If you own plenty of gear or perhaps a camera store, you gotta keep all those gadgets somewhere, right? Well, make sure to invest in sturdy, high-quality shelves if you want them to be safe and sound. In this CCTV video, you’ll see what can happen if you don’t.

The video was posted on Twitter by an account ben ne izledim az önce (Google says it translates from Turkish as “What did I watch?”). It shows a camera store employee minding his own business, probably looking for something on one of the shelves. As he accidentally gave a gentle bump to the shelf behind him, it slowly began to tip over. And when he tried to stop it, everything just went to hell. You can watch the video below, but make sure to mute your speakers since the music is pretty loud.

This reminded me of one of the shelves in my old apartment, the one where I kept my gear and gadgets. The second row was really flimsy and it would fall down if I wasn’t careful when dusting. But I had no other place to keep my gear, so I just used that row for lightweight stuff like flash gels, lens pouches, reflectors… Needless to say that I had to gather them around the room more than once. And I can only imagine what it was like for the guy in the video to clean up that mess!

Still, the silver lining is that the gear most likely survived the fall. If it’s in original boxes, it’s packed well enough to withstand some tossing around. After all, do you think that folks who ship it are gentler to it?

Anyway, has anything like this ever happened to you? Did your gear survive?
