WhatsApp soon to let you send photos and videos without compression?

According to recent reports, two new features are coming to WhatsApp. It looks like we’ll soon be able to share photos and videos at their “best quality.” In other words, it’s possible that WhatsApp will let us send them without compression.

WABetaInfo writes that there are two new features coming to WhatsApp and they’re currently being developed for Android. In fact, it’s the same compression-related, only applied to photos or videos. The new feature is supposed to let us take control over the amount of compression applied to the content we share. Judging from screenshots, we will be able to choose between Auto, Best quality, and Data saver options.

At the moment, there is no way to set the photo and video quality on WhatsApp as it is on Viber, for example. You can only change a file’s extension to send it as a document rather than an image or video. But the upcoming feature will save us the hassle and give us more control over the content we share. We can choose the “Data saver” option when the connection is poor or we need to, well, save data. On the other hand, the “Best quality” mode will let us share our content in all its glory – at least I think so.

It’s not completely clear what “Best quality” means. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will send your content in “the best quality available.” My assumption is that this means “least compressed.” But, it’s possible that we will actually be able to send photos and videos without compression. WhatsApp’s parent company Facebook is still to confirm the new feature and what exactly it includes, and we’ll keep you updated.
