“This particular photo was taken on Saturday 21st November, just after the sun had set and I was on my way home after taking some pictures from Workington Shore.
The 3m cross/crucifixion is built on the top of the Shore Hills in Workington and faces straight over the Solway Firth, It was built without planning permission by a member of the public along with his friends one Sunday Morning in 2014 as a memorial to his late wife. After initially receiving 6 objections about the cross, retrospective planning permission was given by the local council as over 1800 members of the public signed a petition in support of the structure remaining in situ.
As I was travelling up the road from the shore, I could see the sky changing and I knew the image I wanted to get. The sky just looked like it was in fire, especially around the cross. So I pulled into a layby opposite the hills and while being watched by some bemused security guards from a nearby factory I took the pictures over the factory roof.
The picture itself was taken on a Canon EOS 200D camera using an 18-200mm lens at 200mm Aperture was F5.6, shutter speed 1/100, and ISO 100.”
