Ben Shapiro Gives AOC A Free History Lesson After She Loses It Over Amy Coney Barrett’s Confirmation
Democrats everywhere came completely unglued on Monday after Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed to the Supreme Court. Few were angrier than Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her “Squad,” who were quick to throw tantrums about Barrett’s confirmation on social media.
Thankfully, conservative commentator Ben Shapiro stepped in to give Ocasio-Cortez the free history lesson that she clearly desperately needs when it comes to Supreme Court nominations.
AOC Melts Down Over Barrett’s Confirmation
“Expand the court,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted just after Barrett was confirmed. “Republicans do this because they don’t believe Dems have the stones to play hardball like they do.And for a long time they’ve been correct.”
“But do not let them bully the public into thinking their bulldozing is normal but a response isn’t,” she added. ” There is a legal process for expansion.”

Shapiro, however, was not having any of it.
Shapiro Fires Back At AOC
The proud conservative fired back by pointing out that Democrats are actually the ones responsible for creating the political environment that led to Barrett being confirmed.

Shapiro explained that Democrats are the ones who started the political escalation, especially in the Senate, many years ago, so they only have themselves to blame for where they are now.
“The funniest part about this tweet is that Democrats were first to destroy judicial candidates for mere interpretational disagreement, the first to use the filibuster against judges, and the first to nuke the filibuster against judges…but she thinks the Republicans started it,” Shapiro wrote to Ocasio-Cortez.

Democrats Made Their Beds
This comes after Democrats spent decades in the Senate doing everything they could to tear down conservative judges. We all saw this culminate in 2018 with the Supreme Court confirmation hearings of Brett Kavanaugh, at which time Democrats pushed unsubstantiated allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
The filibuster was originally meant for legislative purposes when it was implemented in the 1800s, according to the Heritage Foundation. However, it was Democrats who were the first to invoke it in 2003 against nearly a dozen federal judicial nominees appointed by then-President George W. Bush.

Democrats’ ‘Nuclear Option’ Comes Back To Haunt Them
It was also Democrats who passed the so-called “nuclear option” in 2013, lowering the vote-threshold required to approve federal judges. They did this to retaliate against Republicans for taking a play out of the left’s playbook and filibustering many of the executive nominees of Barack Obama.
Before this happened, judges and executive nominees needed three-fifths approval, or 60 votes in the Senate. Thanks to Democrats changing the rules, however, a simple majority of 51 votes is all that is needed for approval.
Then-Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell warned Democrats at the time, “You’ll regret this — and you may regret this a lot sooner than you think.”
Democrats are certainly regretting that move today.
