Interesting that the Wilma character is now socially acceptable.

Lesser known is that the entire state capitol city of California, Sacramento, was raised on jacks about 20 – 25 feet between the 1860's and the 1880's to prevent the city from being drowned by the frequent floods of the American River delta it sits on. The old streets and buildings are under the current ones. Sometimes they're filled with earth, sometimes not. Some of the original first floors were jacked up and still exist with an earthen basement below, sometimes they were turned into basements, and sometimes they were just walled off and left intact. There is one spot where there is a sunken open courtyard leading into a rather large and popular restaurant which was on the street in the 1800's. There seem to be very few photographs and maps of the transformation. Nobody is quite sure, even the City Building and Street Commissions, about how many open underground spaces there are or if there are, or could be, connections. Because of the water table and building codes nobody digs down in Sacramento. This, would be a perfect site for a story like this classic Kolchak one.

Another spooky weird California location are the underground foundations of Alcatraz. They're from the original fort built in the 1850's and strengthened during the Civil War. There are no tours but the famous California PBS show "California's Gold" with Huell Howser was allowed to roam down there once. There were spooky and grim cells at the beginning of the labyrinth that were used for punishment and insane prisoners and then a dark and confusing maze. The ex-guards and docents aren't sure of the full extent of tunnels, they rarely go down there, and they constantly find new things when they do. What a site for a horror story!

Another great movie. Have to agree, the The Night Stalker tops it for us too.
Didn't mind the series. Some interesting ideas, a bit shaky on some of the execution.

Love your film analysis. There was supposed to be a film remake of the Night Stalker starring Johnny Depp. I guess the project is in limbo now due to Depp's personal problems and the desire by Disney to make it a PG movie. I think Depp could pull it off and hope it happens.

HAPPY 81st birthday today to Jo Ann Pflug. DOB May 2nd 1940. I decided to look her up to see if she was still alive and found out today is her birthday and she is still very much alive, I had no idea she was married to Chuck Woolery. I loved the Kolchack series and the movies when I was a kid. I haven't watched it since then and came across it here on YT. Still an excellent watch. Wally Cox passed away in 1973 at the age of 48. Must of died not long after doing this movie.

The first scenes are almost a blow-by-blow retread of the first one, with the "vampire." The underground Seattle scenes made this one better, IMHO.

When this came out, I was just entering High School and I recall the intrigue I felt upon first learning of the Pioneer Square Underground 🧐😬😱
