The Move Towards Motion – Firmware Fixes
SUBSTANTIAL UPGRADE
“There’s no doubting that the Canon EOS R5 C, along with the C70, which has similarly received a number of important upgrades over the years, are both better MOTIONcameras now than they’ve ever been,” says Jake. “Out of the recent improvements I particularly like the faster switching that’s now available between stills and video mode, which I think is a massive plus point for those who are hybrid operators.
“I also like the fact that Canon is trying to help users get the most run-time out of the LP-E6 batteries the R5 C uses. We use this camera a lot at CVP because of its ability to produce high quality stills as well as professional standard video footage, and up to now we’ve often worked using an external battery because those in the camera haven’t been lasting too long, particularly when we’re in video mode. So it’s really good to see an improvement here.”
It’s quite unusual for upgrades to cover off anything really substantial since, as mentioned, the usual things to be fixed are annoying bugs that have been identified and other fairly small issues. However, Jake points out that firmware upgrades can actually transform the way a camera performs, something that’s incredible to think about when you might have already been using your camera for a considerable period of time.
