What the fuck are you talking about:
1. Open source package or software owner defines the licensing scheme and can change it at any time. This will cause a lot of trouble for the companies. Yeah, maybe owner would not sue IBM but for mere mortals it can be pain in the ass.
2. Security – you several or maybe tens thousands packages in software and you do not track all the owners. RTFM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cyib2MgvdM. How it spreads out checking for security.
3. OSS developed by single programmers sucks… most of the time. There are rare exceptions here and there but generally it is buggy, it is not developed on regular basis, it is full of security holes, it has poor performance and nobody cares etc.
Most noticeable piece of OSS not owned by big players is ffmpeg. In most cases I prefer OSS from big guys. But maintaining OSS costs money, so…How Does FREE Software Make MONEY?
