Planning your first RV trip? The RV Odd Couple share the mistakes they made when planning their first RV Trip and Tips for Newbie RVers.

After owning 2 RV’s, they share the different mistakes they made on each of their maiden RV voyages. Their first RV was a 2018 Sandpiper and their New RV is a 2020 Forest River Sandpiper. They mistakenly assumed the move between the two RV’s would be easy.

They thought, “How hard could it be?” But between the changes in technology, the long distance – cross country trip, getting sick on the road, and the false sense of security, their experience proves you can never over prepare for your first RV Trip. Because when considering the RV lifestyle, it’s important to set the tone by making your first RV trip a success!

I would almost say don't just flush the water on a brand new unit, I would also consider sanitizing it also. You don't know how long those pipes were laying around in various warehouses.

Haha. I wish I had known this a few years ago. I purchased an RV in Indianola Indiana and traveled from NM to get it on a 3 day weekend. 🤣🤣🤣 it was a horrible trip. 25 degrees in Kansas over night and to top it off 60mph winds. My first time ever towing a trailer. OMG I was so scared!!!! Thank goodness for the camp host in Kansas he felt pitty and helped us figure things out. What an adventure. Never forget.

Food poisoning? Oh no!! Make sure to carry probiotics (I give my patients MegaSporebiotic) and always have activated charcoal on hand – just in case! Happy to give you links if you need them 🙂 Glad you're feeling better!

I am in Melbourne, FL and our first RV trip in my old travel trailer was to Ft. Wilderness in Disney World. While I had traveled in a pop up camper a lot when I was a kid, it was my wife's first time in an RV so I wanted it to be in a nice place and Disney does it right. Great advice, we plan on going full time in about a year…

Something i'm SUPER interested to know more about… I've watched a couple of videos and noticed that you guys speak a lot about God, so I assume you're christian? If so HELLO BROTHER AND SISTER… but my question is how do you maintain fellowship? Do you have a home church or just travel and fellowship wherever you go? We're about to purchase our first rig and while right now we aren't planning to do full-time, we have actually talked about it and were very excited about the idea… until my children started complaining about missing their friends. LOL

Hope the appointments for Sage go well and she gets the supports she needs.

Can you do a review of your truck? We are leaning towards the GMC Denali ourselves and would really like to hear your opinions of it.

I'd recommend taking a good look at your site before backing in too… there "may have been" a limb that leaned out over the entrance to the site that jumped out in front of our brand new rig on our first trip. #DamagedPride

Thanks for your story!! Our first time out in “Tigg” was 30 minutes from home for every reason you mentioned. It was nice to be able to run home because we forgot… keep up the travels!

How fast do you normally drive with the RV? What do you consider to fast on a major highway?

I want to see more of your adventures and less videos of ya'll just sitting in front of the camera talking. Like don't tell us stories of someone being a jerk, show us. I liked the Arizona and stuck on the beach videos the most because they are live action videos. 💗

I can’t even imagine what a long stressful trip that was, we made a 2600 mile RT trip from SC to TX the same time but with just the Jeep, long boring ride. And BTW news radio the whole time. Glad you made it safely and with humor good luck to you all, Happy New Year. Enjoy and Happy Trails!

Hi Mercedes and John,  Question for John or Mercedes, Did either of you have to get a class A drivers license due to the weight / length of the RV and Truck? We live in California and I think ??? I might have to get a non commercial drivers license with my 2019 F-450 and our Jayco Pinnacle. BTW Laura and I are going to the 2020 Quartzsite RV show in AZ. in just a few days. Will let you know how our first boondocking  trip turns our. Background– we went from a 1993 27 Ft. Kit trailer to a 2018 41' fifth wheel. It was an easy transition but boondocking for the first time in the 5th wheel will be exciting? Bradford and Laura Hoyt. ThemHoyts@comcast.net.
